Things to Do This Week

If attending events, please check their COVID-19 safety requirements. It’s still a good idea to mask-up—especially indoors. We’re still in a pandemic. Please get vaccinated/boosted!

Lindorks Lists 126 - Things to Do Eat Know This Week - Explore Edmonton Food and Events Alberta
Things to do this week: A Taste of Edmonton, K-Days, water adventures, and more!
  • Plan your visit to K-days! (Edmonton EXPO Centre / Grounds 7515 118 Ave.)

    • K-Days kicks off this weekend July 22 and runs until July 31. I don’t know about you, but going to K-Days has always been part of my summer. Along with midway games, rides, and food, be sure to catch free live music each night, an indoor, outdoor, AND vintage market, BaconFestYEG, K-Days BBQ, an Indigenous Experience and more!

  • Get a Taste of Edmonton (Churchill Square)

    • A Taste of Edmonton also runs July 22-31 at Churchill Square downtown, featuring 50 Edmonton food vendors, live music, duelling pianos, drinks and more. This is another summer staple event!

  • Check out Edmonton Carnaval (Alberta Ave. Community League 9210 118 Ave.)

    • Alberta’s largest Latino event Edmonton Carnaval runs this weekend July 22-24 at the Alberta Avenue Community League. Check out the live Latin music, cuisine, crafts and fun for all ages.

  • Celebrate The Carrot’s 15th Birthday (9351 118 Ave.)

  • Go for a raft down the river or a kayak near St. Albert

    • Last weekend I had the pleasure of experiencing two gifted water adventures—one was a raft down the North Saskatchewan River with The Paddle Station, and the other was a kayak at Cardiff Pond north of St. Albert with Fusion World Rentals. I am all about activities on the water during the summer and renting is a great way to dip your toes in the water (lol literally) for water fun without investing in your own gear.

    • You can get 15% off your raft rental with The Paddle Station using code LINDORK15 (book by Sept. 30, 2022) and you get 10% off your kayak rental using code Kayakers10 (only 50 code uses available). Enjoy!!

Got an Edmonton area event, virtual event, or something coming up you think my readers would be interested in knowing about? Let me know!

Food to Try This Week

Please continue safely supporting local restaurants, in whatever way works for your comfort levels. If not dining in, please do take-out! Mask-up and please stay home if you’re sick.

Eats this week: Happy Hour specials at Dorinku Osaka, a massive Bulldog from Maria Northern Mexican Restaurant, a Twilight Picnic Box and more!
  • Check out Happy Hour deals at Dorinku Osaka (10328 Jasper Ave.)

    • On the hunt for the best Happy Hours in Edmonton (blog post eventually coming!), I stopped to enjoy Dorinku Osaka’s—which includes delicious items like $9 chicken karaage, $6 shaka shaka fries, $10 tuna tataki, $14 cream truffle udon. Plus you have to add the pressed salmon sushi (not part of Happy Hour deals but you can’t go here and not order it lol)

  • Say farewell to Pho Boy Vietnamese Kitchen (10037b 82 Ave.)

    • It’s the final weekend for Pho Boy Vietnamese Kitchen on Whyte Ave. Their final day in business is June 24. Give them one last hurrah and enjoy their delicious Vietnamese cuisine while you still can!

  • Grab coffee from the award-winning barista at Rogue Wave (11322 119 St.)

    • Did you know: Edmonton’s Rogue Wave Coffee is home to award-winning barista Ply Pasarj? He won #1 in Canada and #5 in the world in a competition back in 2021 and most recently placed third. Check out Rogue Wave and say hello and congrats to Ply if you see him!

  • Try the Bulldog and Northern Mexican Cuisine at Maria (10220 103 St.)

    • While doing important research for an upcoming blog post (lol), my friend Shereen and I were delighted to try the Maria Bulldog at Maria Northern Mexican Restaurant downtown. This massive Bulldog says it’s for two but officially I think four people could share it! We got mango. They also have Taco Tuesday deals if you want to check it out on a Tuesday. Delicious food. And they’re the only spot in town (that I’m aware of) who do a Mexican Breakfast Buffet on weekends! Their website is currently down so browse their Instagram for menu / inspo.

  • Book a Picnic Box at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden

  • Check out the Grove Rotary RibFest (Central Park, Sprue Grove)

    • The Grove Rotary Ribfest in partnership with Raven Wolf Brewing Co. runs this weekend July 22-24 and is FREE to attend (you have to buy your own BBQ). There are 5 BBQ vendors, live music, a car and motorcycle show, vendor market, skatepark Competition, family fair and more!

  • Feeling fried chicken? Check out this Twitter list with recommendations!

Ate something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.

From the Blog Vault

Around this time in 2020 I had visited and blogged about Brandy’s Landing, a Windermere (south Edmonton) River Valley Swing! This was such a fun and cute river valley adventure. I don’t know if the swing is still there but if you decide to take a river valley walk in the area, please let me know (and enjoy! and be safe!)
