Thank you to Global Edmonton for having me on Global News Morning on April 4, 2021 to talk about the #StopAsianHateAlberta initiative I co-developed with Jessie Cayabo of Bonafide Media & PR and Carmen Cheng of Food Karma Blog.
From the interview:
“This is not solely an Asian Canadian issue. It’s a human rights issue. When you stop race-based hate for one community and that will make all communities safer, it will make a world a safer place when we’re not scared that we’ll be attacked for who we are, the colour of our skin, or simply for standing some where and wearing something related to our cultural heritage. Locally as you know we’ve seen a number of attacks on Muslin women in Alberta and that’s terrifying. We stand with all underrepresented groups that face systemic racism and these growing, outward, public attacks. It’s not just about stoping Asian hate it’s about stopping all race-based hate.”
I also discuss microaggressions, subtle or unintentional racism, the simple but significant actions all Albertans can take for racial justice, and shout out to Edmonton restaurants: Filistix, HanJan, Yelo’d and my parents’ restaurant King Noodle House (Pho Hoang) as just a few of the delicious spots you can get Asian cuisine here in Edmonton, while supporting Asian business owners.

STOP AAPI Hate also suggests you ask your workplace, school, faith-based institution, unions and community groups you may be involved with what they are doing to denounce racism.
