Things to Do This Week
Toast the Art Gallery of Alberta’s centennial (2 Sir Winston Churchill Sq.)
This Saturday, March 23’s Refinery Party: Palm Room is a 1920’s Speakeasy theme, bees knees bash to celebrate the gallery’s 100-year history! Back in 1924, the Edmonton Museum of Arts (now the AGA) kicked off its debut exhibition in the ritzy Palm Room of the Hotel MacDonald. Get tickets to the party of the century! It will feature live music, throwback talkies on the big screen, and performances in swanky lounges throughout the Gallery.

On Saturday March 23 from 6:30-10:30 p.m., Moments by Morrel is back with an immersive experience “Art is… Sneakerhead Edition” featuring live art demonstrations, installations, food, drink, and conversation with artists. The local artist line-up looks amazing! They’ve offered newsletter subscribers 10% off your ticket using code Sole24.
Check out the Orchid Fair and Seedy Sunday (various locations)
For my gardeners + plant appreciators, you might be interested in checking out the 44th Annual Orchid Fair on Sunday, March 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Enjoy Centre in St. Albert. It is the largest orchid event of its kind in Canada—featuring hundreds of orchids of every shape, size, and colour. Or pop into 2024 Seedy Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 24 at Alberta Avenue Hall where you can check out seed vendors, gardening businesses, community organizations, and participate in a Seed Share.
Check out Edmonton’s International BeerFest (Edmonton Convention Centre)
I will never really understand why Edmonton’s Craft Beer Festival and Edmonton’s International BeerFest happen on back to back weekends each year… but if my beer lovers didn’t get enough beer last week—check out this festival at the Edmonton Convention Centre this weekend March 21-23!
Celebrate Holi Festival (On Edge Brewing, 10308 81 Ave.)
Celebrate the Hindu Festival Holi (Festival of Colours, Love and Spring) this Saturday, March 23 at On Edge Brewing in Old Strathcona. There will be neon paint, a live DJ (Bollywood, Hip Hop, Punjabi jams), drinks and more!
Catch the final regular season game of the Oil Kings (Rogers Place)
The final Oil Kings home game of the regular season is this Sunday, March 24. The Oil Kings games have always been a great, family-friendly and affordable hockey option in the city. Go cheer them on (tickets as low as $20).
- Don’t miss Spring Break in the Square (Churchill Square)
- On Monday & Tuesday March 25 & 26 from 12-4 p.m., experience Spring Break on the Square presented by the Edmonton Arts Council. There will be lots of FREE family arts performances, games, and more.
Here’s a few pre-Easter events you might be interested in:

There are lots of egg hunts happening around town but I thought this Strathcona County Egg Hunt on March 30 was especially worth mentioning because there will be 100,000+ Easter Eggs to gather (and other activities!)

There’s lots of great spots on the list. Check out this handy spreadsheet Kory (kdginyeg) put together to help you browse and plan your downtown eats!
Try Chef Mai Nguyen’s pop-up menu at The Monolith (9919 78 Ave.)
The very awesome Chef Mai Nguyen is doing a pop-up meal at The Monolith by Blind Enthusiasm on Saturday, March 23! Choose from five (obviously order all five!! lol) special menu items from 2 p.m. until sold out.

Sherbrooke Community League is hosting a Sherbrooke Chili Cookoff this Sunday, March 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It’s FREE to attend, though I assume you’d need to pay to the different chili. Recipes will also be listed.
Try the Mango Matcha Latte or many other great drinks from BOBA BAR!
This week I’m highlighting one of my son’s amazing birthday party vendors BOBA BAR in Sherwood Park (3850 Sherwood Dr.). I absolutely love their Mango Matcha Latte, Passionfruit Tea, and really anything they create! It’s so good. We hired this family-owned business to do a DIY Bubble Tea Station (a literal boba bar) at Benjimin’s birthday and it was SUCH a hit. Go visit if you haven’t, and consider hiring them for your next event!!
Show some love to Fleisch before they close permanently (8210 106 Ave.)
Unfortunately, Fleisch is closing. This lovely Forest/Terrace Heights neighbourhood restaurant hasn’t set an exact closing date yet (they said they should be open for the next several weeks) so you can plan to swing by one last time before they close permanently.

Small Business Spotlight
Congratulations to Edmonton, woman-owned clothing store Floc Boutique on their 16th year in business! Floc stands “For the love of clothes” and the last few years haven’t been the easiest for them with the pandemic but the community continues to show up (in nice clothes! lol) If you’ve never been or browsed online, this milestone is a great time to check them out!
From the Blog Vault
Around this time in 2022 I stayed / worked with Baker Creek Mountain Resort and blogged about how it’s like staying in a real-life Hallmark Christmas movie. It’s SO cute, cozy and picturesque. Since then they’ve been bought by a different group so I am not sure if the experience has changed too much (I assume changes for the better!) Maybe an accommodation to consider for your final winter and then into summer adventures near Lake Louise in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
