Things to Do This Week
Go see Broadway Across Canada’s HAIRSPRAY (Jubilee Auditorium)
HAIRSPRAY is on tour in Edmonton this week with daily shows at the Northern Jubilee Auditorium until March 31. I was invited to Opening Night (media night) and had an absolute blast—the sets are incredible, the songs and dances, colours and important messages make this show a must-watch.
Check out The Downtown Defrost: Electric Music & Arts Festival (Churchill Sq.)
This weekend The Downtown Defrost hits Churchill Square March 29 & 30, featuring two stages, a ton of artists, a bunch of fun. Get tickets to day parties from 2-10 p.m. followed by night parties that start at 10 p.m.—this festival encourages Edmontonians to ‘defrost’ their way into Spring.
Experience the Champions of Magic show (Festival Place, Sherwood Park)
The Champions of Music are doing shows at Festival Place in Sherwood Park until next weekend, offering an evening of impossible illusions, spectacular special effects and interactive magic!!
Get tickets to Expanse Movement Arts Festival (various locations)
Expanse is a 10-day Movement Arts Festival running March 28-April 4, focused on body-based work (a celebration of ALL bodies on stage!) with a Performance Series showcasing local, regional, national and international artists, along with a Community Outreach Program with activities designed to activate Edmonton.
Get a sneak peek of new plays at Springboards Festival (8529 Gateway Blvd.)

Food to Try This Week
Plan your next Taco Tuesday El Mariachi (10991A 124 St.)
I finally made it down for the infamous Taco Tuesday at El Mariachi restaurant on 124 Street and boy, it did not disappoint! Choose from 17 different taco toppings—each taco on Taco Tuesday is only $2!!! And like, these aren’t tiny tacos—they are quite generous with the filling. So obviously, we ordered one of all 17 taco offerings between the two of us. It was amazing and filling—we even ended up taking a bunch home for next day lunch. Service is really good. There’s live music. Just expect a bit of a wait because obviously—you will want to wait for delicious $2 tacos lol. Most importantly I hope people are returning to support this family-owned restaurant throughout the week too!
Try some Thai at Siam Thai Kitchen (15883 116 Ave.)
I remember loving Siam Thai Kitchen when I went with my family awhile back—and recently made lunch plans to go there with a friend who loves Thai food! So I thought I’d recommend it for you this week as well. Find them at their original north west Edmonton location or an ‘express’ version in St. Albert. Good portions, good flavours!
Check out the Jamaican Annual Fish Fry (18150 127 St.)
The Jamaican Association of Northern Alberta is hosting their Annual Fish Frythis Friday, March 29 from 1-8 p.m. Order your tickets for a Fried Snapper, Brown Stew Fish, Steam Fish or Pepper Shrimp meal. There will be music/entertainment as well
Check out Rob’s Famous Fried Chicken (8540 Jasper Ave.)
This is a recommendation from subscriber Brittney, who writes:
“Rob’s Fried Chicken is from the owners of Panini’s. I ordered in some of their chicken tenders and while I initially thought two chicken tenders wouldn’t be enough, these are really generous, crunchy, and well spiced. Sometimes you just want some chicken tendies, and I’m definitely ordering from these guys again!”
Don’t miss Downtown Dining Week! (various locations)
These are your last few days to take in Edmonton Downtown Dining Week deals, which end after March 31. 60 restaurants in the city centre are offering special $15 or $25 lunch or brunch, and $35 $50 or $65 dinner set menus.
Here’s a few Easter food considerations (various locations)
Meuwly’s is selling their award-winning Smoked Ham! Saturday, March 30 is the final day for ham pick-up. Impress your guests or honestly, just eat ham for days if you’re a family of 2.5 like us. This is a delicious, fully cooked, boneless, brined with honey and spices, and smoked with beechwood ham!!
Check out Easter in Nisku on Sunday, March 31 an event featuring Mother Bakery by Chartier, Alternate Route Coffee Bar, Bar OA Farms (pick your own fresh tulip bouquet), Chocolate Escapade, and more!
Go BIG with the grand Easter Brunch at Fairmont Hotel Macdonald on Sunday, March 31 in their Empire Ballroom. There will also be an Easter Bunny / Easter Egg Hunt and Family Photo Booth.
Here’s some food events you might be interested in…
Fleisch’s Farewell / final day is on March 28 (limited menu). They are also doing a Garage Sale on March 29 & 30. Do go bid them farewell.

Small Business Spotlight
I’ve highlighted Mod Uncorked Consignment Shop before but wanted to bring attention back to them as they are currently doing a fundraiser for Bissell Centre and Boyle Street—whose day programs funding was cancelled by the city. Until April 30, Mod Uncorked (located at 10003-80th Ave.) is collecting laundry soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, coffee, hot chocolate and period products for these organizations that help the city’s most vulnerable. Anyone who brings a donation will get a 20% off discount card to shop at anytime throughout April.
I’ve also highlighted Princess & the Pea Boutique (10059 166 St.) before but wanted to mention it’s their anniversary and giving away FREE gifts for expecting moms and guests who come with kids. No purchase required (limit one per person) until supplies last. This store has been selling some of the cutest stuff for kids for nearly 20 years (since 2006!) Nearby you can eat at the very delicious Kazoku Ramen! Both of these just off Stony Plain Road. You can also get 15% off your first order with LINDA15 online or in-store AND I’m doing a giveaway on Instagram for a $100 gift card!
