Things to Do This Week

Things to do this week: Chinatown After Dark, K-Days, and an Old Strathcona Farmers Market Block Party!
  • Celebrate the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market’s 40th Anniversary (10310 83 Ave.)

  • Go to Chinatown After Dark (10566 97 St. – alley behind China Marble)

    • Head to Chinatown this Saturday July 29 from 6-10 p.m. for Chinatown After Dark featuring “street market vibes, great food and fun games” as the alley is transformed into a patio and play space. Organizers invite you to “reimagine how we enjoy Chinatown after dark.” Purchase tickets to sample food from 6 Chinatown eateries (along that back alley!!) and play games.

  • Head to the Edmonton Corn Maze’s Opening Week! (26171 Sec. Hwy 627, SG)

    • The Edmonton Corn Maze invites you to Get Lost with them as they kick off another season this week. This year’s maze design is a tribute to the RCMP.

  • Shop the Indigenous Arts Market (Art Gallery of Alberta)

    • The I.A.M. Collective (Indigenous Art Market Collective) and the Art Gallery of Alberta invite you to a special weekend Indigenous Arts Market called CREATE on July 29 and 30 celebrating local Indigenous talent. I.A.M. is an Indigenous arts collective featuring more than 70 First Nations, Metis and Inuit artists. The market is in the entrance of the AGA and is FREE to attend (then you could grab admission into the Art Gallery if you like!)

  • Plan a U-Pick (various locations)

  • Check out the ‘Art is…’ immersive experience + free market (10335 84 Ave.)

  • Party on Stony Plain Road (Butler Memorial Park, 15715 Stony Plain Rd.)

  • Catch the final weekend of K-Days! (Edmonton Expo Centre / Grounds)

Got an Edmonton area event, virtual event, or something coming up you think my readers would be interested in knowing about? Let me know!

Food to Try This Week

Eats this week: Cold noodles, Korean BBQ, Taste of Edmonton & more!
  • Check out the new Bagel Bar storefront (4823 99 St.)

    • The very popular Bagel Bar, who specializes in hand-rolled sweet and savoury bagels, and CHONK Cookies, has opened a storefront in south Edmonton!

  • Try the new K-POT Street Food + Rice Bowl restaurant (10336 81 Ave.)

    • A new restaurant K POT has popped up near Whyte Ave, specializing in Hong Kong fusion-street food and DIY rice bowls with sauce bar. They’re only open until end of Sept (for now) and on Fri/Sat they’re open late!

  • Try the new west location of Baekjeong Korean BBQ (224 Mayfield Common)

    • Baekjeong Korean BBQ has opened its new west Edmonton location and are offering 10% off all meals until Aug. 1 (first come first serve, no resos during this Grand Opening Week). I was invited for a preview during their soft opening and it’s just as delicious as its southside location—with combo BBQ, Korean soups, appetizers and more to choose from (get the steamed egg!)

  • Take advantage of Late Happy Hour Ramen at Yutaka (10532 82 Ave.)

    • Saw this post from @yegfoodstop about $9.99 Late Happy Hour ramen and appetizer deals from Yutaka Japanese Bistro & Bar on Whyte. This deal is valid Thursday to Sundays from 9 p.m. to Late only in July (so take advantage this week!) Curious to see what their August deal will be.

  • Grab cold noodles from Tang Bistro or Buok Fresh Korean Kitchen

    • I had a Noodle-themed birthday party over the weekend and it included the Summer Special Cold noodle with shredded chicken + veggies + garlic + chili sauce from Tang Bistro (excellent!! soak that up in garlic sauce! lol) as well as Buok Fresh Korean’s Sesame or Kimchi Bibim-guksu salads (cold noodles with egg and vegetables + add beef, pork, chicken or tofu!)

  • And don’t miss A Taste of Edmonton, which wraps up on July 30! Browse the food line-up! My favourites when I went included the Poke Donut from SPLASH POKE, Nachos from Pikante, and Mango Bingsu from Snowy Village / Flurries.

Ate something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.
