Things to Do This Week
Go see Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway! (Jubilee Auditorium)
Broadway Across Canada’s Aladdin is in Edmonton until July 16 and you really got to get tickets to see this show—especially if you were a fan of the Disney movie! I was invited to Media / Opening Night and LOVED seeing the songs come to life on stage, plus the set, costume design and special effects are WOW!
Dig into ribs at Grove Rotary Ribfest (Central Park, Spruce Grove)
Bring out the whole family to enjoy world-class BBQ and free entertainment at the Grove Rotary Ribfest July 14-16 at Central Park in Spruce Grove (just west of Edmonton).
Dance the night away at the For The Girls Music Festival (10004 103A Ave.)
Get tickets to the 2nd Annual For the Girls Music Festival which takes place this Saturday, July 14 at The Backyard outdoor music venue in downtown Edmonton. The headliner is Shawnee Kish and there will also be live performances and DJ sets (from all women performers!)
Celebrate the 30-year anniversary of Animethon (Edmonton Convention Centre)
This July 14-16 marks the 30th anniversary of Animethon in Edmonton! There’s tons of events, entertainment, fan panels, cosplay programming, exhibitors/vendors and more. My nephew is excited to attend with his Dragon Ball Z costume he made.
Experience the C’mon Festival (various locations)
Check out the C’mon Festival this July 12-17 for “music here, there & everywhere!” This festival is all about “serious classical music fun… adventurous, surprising and genre-blurring.” Admission is pay what you can.
Check out the Edmonton International Street Performers Festival (Churchill Sq.)
It’s the final weekend to take in the Edmonton International Street Performers Festival which runs until July 16 at Churchill Square (alongside The Works Art and Design Festival). Find vibrant visual art and sensational street performance for FREE.
Book a tube rental to float down the North Saskatchewan River!
Over the weekend I was gifted a tube float down the North Saskatchewan River from Edmonton River Float. If you’ve never floated down the river, going with a rental company like this is a great way to do it—they give you everything you need (tube, lifejacket, paddle, etc.), and even provide a shuttle service! You can also learn more about planning a float from my 2020 blog.
Got an Edmonton area event, virtual event, or something coming up you think my readers would be interested in knowing about? Let me know!
Food to Try This Week
Try ‘Pizza for Breakfast’ at Campio (10257 105 St.)
We tried the brunch menu at Campio Brewing in downtown Edmonton (home to what I think has to be the biggest parking lot patio in the city), including a shared table French Toast and their sweet and savoury deep dish ‘Pizza for Breakfast!’
Check out the new noodle and bubble tea shop on 104 Street (10142 104 St.)
There’s a new noodle and bubble tea shop on 104 Street called CQ Noodle (where the old Ono Poke used to be). And I’m actually going to give it a try for lunch today after I send this newsletter! Looking forward to their handmade, authentic Szechuan noodles (and bubble tea!)
Try the milk tea ice cream from White Rabbit (10546 110 St.)
I’ve heard from a few different people now raving about the delicious milk tea ice cream from White Rabbit Ice Cream, a new-ish small batch, always fresh, locally sourced ice cream shop. Gotta give it a try!
Order up burgers and a side of nostalgia at Ken’s Diner (6104 Schonsee Way)
Thanks to Deb for suggesting Ken’s Diner as a place to eat this week. This is a north Edmonton 50s style diner with burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, soups, salads, and pie—including whole pies. They also offer multi-course lunch and dinner deals!
Try the Korean Fried Chicken from Country Coco (9261 34 Ave.)
My brother and sister-in-law treated the family to some Korean Fried Chicken from Country Coco in south Edmonton for my nephew’s birthday this week. This Korean eatery focuses on ‘traditional food’—using fresh local chicken with housemade sauces. We had the Original and Yang Yum though I think I’d also love the Soy Garlic!
And here’s a few local food events you may be interested in…
EPIC (formerly JustCook Kitchens Food Hall) is relaunching with a Grand Opening event on July 14.
Check out the Street Spirit Festival on July 16, “the ultimate celebration of whiskey” and a “one-of-a-kind event is designed to be approachable and fun for all whisky lovers, no matter your level of knowledge or expertise.”
Alberta Pulses is putting on a Farm to Table Dinner at Old Red Barn on July 27. They also invited me to their Aug 10 Farm to Table Dinner with Taste Alberta if you’d like to dine with (well near me lol) I always have an amazing time at Taste Alberta events!
Ate something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.
New on the Blog
This summer (2023) I partnered with Lacombe Regional Tourism to experience the Central Alberta City of Lacombe (and nearby Town of Bentley). There’s a ton of shopping + great restaurants to try check out in the area, perfect for a day trip (or stay to play!!) Copy my itinerary / use it to help plan your visit (over on the blog).
Don’t forget to use my travel guides to #ExploreABwithMe this summer and share about it for a chance to WIN!
Plus: I’m sharing photos from Benjimin’s One-Month Birthday (Vietnamese Ngày Đầy Tháng) taken by Documentary Family Photographer Paula Gerein!
Small Business Spotlight
I had featured Edmonton-based Paula Gerein, who specializes in what’s called ‘documentary family photography’ awhile back, but thought I’d share about her again given the beautiful shoot she gifted us for Benjimin’s One-Month Birthday. We split our session into quiet moments with our family followed by the one-month party.
Paula invites you to “consider (her) a visiting relative or friend hanging out with her camera.” You’re meant to forget she’s there as you go about your day, or doing whatever activity. I describe her style of shooting like a very special candid, kind of photojournalism, but focused on families.
Paula is giving my readers 10% off a Documentary Family Photography session, just mention LINDORK when you inquire!
Giveaway Next Week!
In next week newsletter (Wednesday, July 19’s) I’ll be giving away some prizes to local Edmonton eateries + attractions to celebrate my Birthday Month! Did you know: silence can actually be heard?

Apparently more than half of Canadians are less than $200 away from not being able to pay all of their bills.
There’s a spot in Canada that has been recommended as the location of a new ‘geological epoch’ marking ‘Anthropocene, or the age of people’ (and with it, all the ways humans have altered the planet).
Unsurprisingly, Danielle Smith doesn’t really care about addressing climate.
