And check out the new UNIQLO store in Southgate Centre (5015 111 St.)
Japanese clothing company UNIQLO hired me this week to chat them up in CTV segments that will air on Friday—the Grand Opening day of their NEW Southgate Centre store! This company is super cool, with innovative products and fairly reasonable prices. For their Southgate launch they’ve got lots of freebies + fun planned, plus custom T-shirt designs from local artists & more. Their viral bags (that can apparently fit a rotisserie chicken.. lol) are also going to be $5 off during opening weekend.
Got an Edmonton area event, virtual event, or something coming up you think my readers would be interested in knowing about? Let me know!
Food to Try This Week
Head to Dalla Tavola for their new daytime specials (10166 100 A St.)
Dalla Tavola has launched a new ‘aperitivo special’ from 2 – 5 p.m. daily. Buy any regular glass of wine, or beer and choose from one of six complementary “cicchetti” (Venetian small bites). Aperitivo is like an Italian Happy Hour. The term itself means ‘pre-meal drink’, and it enjoyed between work and dinner.
Take advantage of Dynasty Century Palace’s crab special (9700 106 Ave.)
Dynasty in Chinatown is offering a crab special until Oct. 31, available for both pick-up / take-out orders and dine-in. For $59.99 you get crab in one of three flavour options, rice, soup of the day, plus two additional items (choose from six items).
Check out the three-course deal at Numchokwilai Restaurant (10623 124 St.)
Numchokwilai Thai on 124 Street posted about a three-course deal (choose from soup, a main and dessert) and I think you should go try it! The post didn’t include a price or any other information (lol I don’t think they’re social media savvy), but I know they’ve been struggling for some time so imagine this is something they’re trying to bring more people in. It’s great food!
Try Egyptian cuisine at Pharaoh’s in south Edmonton (5524 Calgary Trail)
I really enjoyed my recent meal at Edmonton’s only halal Egyptian restaurant Pharaoh’s Restaurant. The Chicken Jawook rice and salad plate was delicious, along with the Chicken Orzo Soup, Baba Ghanoug eggplant spread and Hawawshi Egyptian savoury street food, like a stuffed pita burger. I loved trying these new-to-me dishes! They have a lot of gluten-free items too.
Do the late night hot pot deal at 97 Hot Pot (10602 97 St.)
We got our first dump of snow and cold this week so I thought it appropriate to suggest the late night hot pot deal at 97 Hot Pot in Chinatown. I just went over the weekend. My hot pot lovin’ friends and I agree it’s the best reverse happy hour hot pot deal in town—with 6 items + broth for $20 after 9 p.m. So comforting, delicious and affordable!

This Sunday: Q&A with Janine Rogan
Every other Sunday, I profile a new “interesting person” in a Q&A series just for paid newsletter subscribers. The next person I’ll be profiling this Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023 is Janine Rogan, Keynote Speaker, Financial Equality Expert and Bestselling Author of The Pink Tax: Dismantling a Financial System Designed to Keep Women Broke.
Here’s an excerpt from the Q&A:
“One of the most frustrating and challenging moments in my corporate career was around promotions while I was on maternity leave. I share this story in my book but I was passed over 3x while I was pregnant, on leave, and then back from maternity leave in the corporate world. I was so frustrated because the thing I had tried so hard to avoid was happening to me. I knew other women experienced the same things so after leaving corporate I made it my mission to talk about and spread my message to businesses and women in the same circumstances.” – Janine
