My fur babies are a big, big part of my life.
If you’re following me on social media, you’ve likely seen photos and videos of my two cats and two dogs –
Thor (who just turned 5), Loki (3 years old), Olive (2 years old), and Artie (who is the newest to our family, and nearly 6 months old).
Check out #OliveAndTheCats and #OliveandArtie for some cute posts!
Their importance in our lives is why I’m very excited to announce that I’m now officially a Purina Pet People brand ambassador!
So, what does that mean for you?
Basically: more pet-themed blog posts, even more photos of my two cats and two dogs (yay!), useful tips and tricks when it comes to living with and caring for animals, and (the best part) – free, fun giveaways!
To kick off my official brand ambassadorship with Purina, I’m sharing my tips for the best cat litter experience and giving away Purina Tidy Cats prize pack that includes a three-month supply of Tidy Cats + a $25 Visa gift card!
I always want to be as real as possible in my posts, which is why I was thrilled when Purina asked if I could write about their new Tidy Cats litter because this is the litter that Mike and I have been using for months now!
And we love it.
We truly have noticed a huge difference in litter clean-up with Tidy Cats so I could not wait to get writing about this product.
We’ve been using Tidy Cats Clumping Litter, but the newly launched Tidy Cats Clumping Litter Lightweight with Glade is what I’ll be giving away!
It promises strong clumps with easy clean-up, powerful odour and moisture control, a Glade ‘Clear Springs’ scent, and is 99.6%dust-free. Based on its predecessors, I can say with confidence that this product will help simplify our litter experience!
In the last 5 years, Mike and I have tried so many different types of litter and so many different types of litter boxes, it’s only this past year that we think we’ve finally settled on a combination that really works.
We’ve spent hundreds of dollars on ‘fancy’ litter boxes. We’ve used layered litter boxes (three parts where you sift and shake to separate the litter). We’ve used rolling litter boxes (enclosed, where you roll from side to side to separate the litter). These fancy concepts always end up failing us.
We’ve gone through countless types of litter brands (some were too smelly, some did not have good clumping, some our cats refused to even use, and some we needed to constantly replace).
But in the past year we finally figured out a great combination to make our litter clean-up easy – including switching to Tidy Cats – and I’m happy to share our set-up with you!
Tips for the Best Cat Litter Experience
To replicate our happy cat litter experience, this is all you need:
- (1) very simple, cheap, plastic litter box (literally just the pan) – $10 *
- (1) litter scoop – $3
- (1) Litter Locker (litter storage/disposal) – $20 *
- (1) Purina Tidy Cats litter – $7-$25 depending on size
* two if you have two cats
* if you don’t have a Litter Locker that’s fine too, wherever you normally dispose of the dirty litter works fine. We like the Litter Locker because it doesn’t let any stink seep out before we’re ready to take the trash outside!
I clean the litter box daily, and my process goes like this:
- Scoop out clumped up pieces
- Place into Litter Locker
Um, that’s literally it! The entire process takes less than a minute!
In about a week or two, the Litter Locker fills up, so I take out the bag or replace the dispenser.
Every week I also sift a bit more Purina Tidy Cats litter into the box.
It’s super straight forward and clean, and I feel like I’m getting so much value out of the litter.
Admittedly I should dump all the litter every so often and clean out the box completely but this rarely happens… and yet there’s no stink or other gross issues!
At one point more than a year ago I remember we were going through litter like crazy because it wasn’t clumping right and we ended up having to trash so much of the litter. We haven’t had to do that at all since switching to Tidy Cats!
So I do honestly love Tidy Cats and think it’s made a huge difference in our litter lives! It’s clean, odour control is great, clumping is perfect, and the cats track very little of it outside their boxes. Understandably, every cat is going to be different and there’s likely never one solution that works for all cats, but I can say in my personal experience, this is the best litter we’ve ever had.

Levy the Siberian Cat will let me know when his box needs cleaning by vocalizing a series of sad little squawks ????
I clean the litter box every second day.I use a plain plastic box and buy a dustless litter.
I try to clean the box every 2-3 days with my two fur babies. I have heard the hooded boxes can be horrible for the cats being stuck in a stunk house so we just use a basic box and scoop. When looking for little I try and find something for multiple cats and that has a decent price. Oh and it needs to clump too!!! ????????????????????????
I no longer have my kitty, but my sister has a cat & she cleans the litter box every 3rd day. I know she uses a basic box & buys a clumping litter which is inexpensive, that’s what she looks at mostly is price… but I need to pass this Tidy Cat information along to her ’cause they’ve really stepped up the litter game! She would love this litter with odor/moisture control, Glade scent, & virtually dust-free!
Currently use Arm & Hammer clump litter. Although it works decently for one cat, she tracks it everywhere. I did note Tidy Cat Lite Weight litter ads and wondered if it’s worth a switch as what gives me the most pain is the disposal of heavy used litter clumps.
Every 2 or 3 days is good as long as there is no odors lol , you want something that works but is safe to !
Ideally I wish my son would clean it daily, but since switching to Tidy Cats, we find that every 2nd day works. With our old brand, after half a day the box smelled, but even if he forgets we can’t smell it on day 3!
We clean our litter box every few days.We use a plain plastic litter box.A nice smelling cat litter is what we look for.
We clean our litter every other day. We use a dust-free litter and on the top of the dome litter we have a pouch of baking soda.
I pooper scoop every day
My boyfriend cleans the cat box for our three girls. I wish he could clean it daily because three cats is a lot but he does it every few days.
I scoop it about ever second day. We just have a reg pan but we have it places in a HUGE box. My cat likes to throw his litter very far out of his box so this keeps it controlled. Thanks!
I actually use Tidy Cats Litter. I was using another brand name and it was sticking to my cat’s paws because it wasn’t absorbent enough. Tidy Cat Litter came highly recommended by a friend, I tried it and I love it. I clean daily and it works out great!
This is my favourite litter! So lightweight but it clumps really hard. Lasts way longer than others I have used.
As for scooping. I do it everyday or every other day depending on how bad it is. I usually swap out to fresh new litter every 3 weeks.
I change the litter every second day
We use a covered litter box and we scoop it twice a day. I like to keep it clean and I find it keeps the smell away.
We use a covered litter box and scoop it once a day but we only change the litter once every two weeks.
~Jonnie
We actually have barn cats so we don’t use a litter box.
I clean the litter ever second day and I have one of the kind of layered boxes where you lift and shake and all that is left in the pan is what needs to be gotten rid or
I usually scoop twice a week and take the whole bag out on garbage day for an entirely fresh box. Tobias’ is always very happy on that day :)
My litter box strategy is to scoop it out every day. I use a normal litter box with no lid and I mainly look for litter that clumps well and price when deciding what litter to buy.
We clean the litter box daily. Just use a plain litter box. We use the litter that clumps together for easy cleaning.
scoop daily if need be and change up litter every couple weeks
I clean the litter box every couple of days, and use a pretty big one
I actually use the Tiddycat light weight litter already. I’m a whimp, so it’s nice that I can carry the litter when I buy it. We have two boxes for our cat, Allister-who normally likes to over his business not only with litter, but with a dust pan. The dust pan is kept across the room, and he drags it over to cover his deeds. Then incovers to go again later.
I only ly have one cat. I clean it daily and then change the little every 2 weeks
We check it every day for anything that needs to be removed, and full change weekly. We need clumping, and scent less.
My husband does it right now. And we use a plastic box with a filter.
I clean our cat Ivy’s box every few days which for her works. It depends on the cat I have found. I use the clumping litter in a box with a top lip.
Clean litter boxes everyday. Don’t use scented litter because my cats really dislike it. Have three kitties so we use a lot of clumping litter in an open litter box. Would like to buy them a closed top litter box if I win with the g/c. Thanks for the chance to win.
I scoop every day so it doesn’t make my place smell. One thing I look for is how well the cat litter removes the stink.
I clean it every couple days.
I de lump it every couple days and a total clean wkly, I like the clumping litter but also unscented
My cat demands that I clean her litter box every other day. She hates a mess in there. If it is not cleaned she will go outside the box. Keeps me on my toes. I prefer clumping litter since it makes it so easy to clean
we have 2 cats , scoop the box daily and change the litter on garbage day or in between if needed we add a little to keep it fresh .
It would be great to win a Purina Tidy Cats Litter Prize Pack.
In response to your questions of
What is your litter box strategy? Do you use a fancy box?
What do you look for when deciding what litter to buy?
My litter box strategy is to clean it every three days because i have two cats.
I use a regular litter box and i look for litter that is unscented and clumping.
Thank you for having this giveaway.
I scoop the poop out daily and once a week a full clean.
I have two cats a a few different litter boxes. I use corn litter (clay sticks in the fluffy pantaloons) and scoop about every three days.
Scoop daily and change up litter every week
The cat litter is cleaned a couple of times a day and changed every week, Topped up during the week as needed.
I was thinking about trying a new litter brand as my current one is too dusty and doesn’t clump very well. Thank you for the recommendation, saves me time and energy to find the right one. I scoop every second day and I use empty litter containers but its not hiding odor that well. Going to look into getting a littler locker.
I clean it every day. Price makes a real difference when choosing a brand.
I haven`t actually tried this litter,,interested in doing so now! I usually check it and scoop the poop daily ;),,and clean the litter out entirely every 2-3 weeks.
Never tried this one before
I have one cat, two litter boxes, and use Blue Buffalo walnut litter. I scoop daily or every other day, and top up when needed. Once a month I dump completely and wash the boxes with an un scented cleaner. Cats are super sensitive to smells so litter with no scent and cleaner with no scent is a must! (Scented litter is just for humans, not for cats!). Not interested in the prize since I know what I like but just wanted to tell my litter strategy!
Tidy Cat litter makes my cat cry. Seriously. The poor creature would hang off the box, trying to do his business without letting his paws touch the dreadful stuff. I seriously worried he’d get sick he hated using the box so much. Contacted Purina about why they stopped making Maxx Scoop and forced this garbage on Canadian consumers – of course, they don’t give two hoots.
Joke’s on them – went to *major pet store chain* who had a whole wall of litter marked “Best substitute for Maxx Scoop”. Note only does my cat accept it, it’s cheaper! Thanks, Purina, for sending my business to a competitor!
