Things to Do This Week

Don’t miss the Hand2Hand Market in Edmonton this Saturday, Nov. 25!!

One of Edmonton’s best handmade markets—Hand2Hand—is back for their holiday event this Saturday, Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1751 Towne Centre Blvd. in Terwillegar (southside). The market is FREE to attend and features 60+ local artists, artisans and makers selling everything from food to clothes to paintings to pottery, toys, jewellery and much much more! It’s your one-stop shop for all your holiday gifts!

One of Hand2Hand’s mottos is “makers helping makers” so new this year they’ve added a “Young Creatives” category of vendors featuring artisans are as young as 11 years old participating in their first market ever! They’ll also have a Christmas Bureau table selling wooden toys with proceeds going to help feed Edmontonians in need this Christmas. Click to browse the vendor line-up and plan your visit!

I’ll be there to shop right for open at 10 a.m. on Saturday! 🛍️

Things to do this week: ninja finals, Christmas light-ups, square dancing and MORE!
  • Watch the Canadian Ninja League National Finals (Edmonton EXPO Centre)

    • Pretty neat—Edmonton’s Fitset Ninja is hosting the Canadian Ninja League National Finals this weekend Nov 24-26 at the Edmonton EXPO Centre featuring 350+ ninja athletes from across the country competing for Canada’s top Ninja Warrior for CNL Season 4. “Intense competition. Inspiring athletes. Spectacular obstacle courses. Action-packed excitement. Inclusive environment. Unforgettable atmosphere!”

  • Catch a live pro wrestling show (The Rec Room South Edmonton)

  • Go (and watch) square dancing (West Edmonton Mall)

  • See 2022 Eurovision winners Kalush Orchestra perform (Union Hall, 6240 99 St.)

  • See the final weekend of Out of the Kiln exhibit (10554 110 St.)

    • It’s the final weekend to see Out of the Kiln: Sharing Traditions in Clay at the Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts. The exhibit examines the connections developed between people and cultures through the lens of pottery. “Each piece examines how artisans have been inspired by multicultural exchange, and an appreciation of techniques, styles, and motifs developed over time.”

  • Attend the Y2Y Wild Film Fest (virtual)

    • Y2Y the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative presents a FREE virtual Film Festival this Friday, Nov. 24 focusing on how connections are critical for the well-being of wildlife and people. “From bringing bison back, adding more wildlife crossings to the landscape, and deep ties to the land that span generations, join us to view films that highlight the connections of people and place. We will showcase three films throughout the day that explore a different part of the Yellowstone to Yukon region and tell a unique story of connection, restoration and hope. Each film will be presented live and followed by an engaging panel discussion featuring Y2Y program staff and some key people involved with the films.”

  • Plus – a few more markets for the weekend:

    • After 16 years, the FINAL two weekends of the Royal Bison Art and Craft Fair will take place on Nov 24-26, and again Dec 1-3. (tickets at door)

    • Check out A Punk Rock Christmas Market on Nov. 25 at Ritchie Community Hall ft. 30+ vendors at your “one stop shopping destination for alternative-weirdo-lowbrow-artsy/fartsy-type friends and family in your life!”

    • The Wrappers Delight Holiday Market on Sunday, Nov. 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Santa on site from 2-4). “What makes our makes our market unique is that people can sip tasty beverages from the bar while they shop local vendors, artists and makers (including Meuwlys). And… Santa is coming!” (free to attend)

  • And enjoy these festive activities happening around the city! (various locations)

Got an Edmonton area event, virtual event, or something coming up you think my readers would be interested in knowing about? Let me know!

Food to Try This Week

Eats this week: PIZZA (for a good cause), Beef Wellington brunch, all you can eat Japanese BBQ and MORE!
  • Eat some pizza from LOVEPIZZA and bring a toy for the Zebra Centre!

    • It’s not posted yet but I’ve been informed that LOVEPIZZA is hosting a Toy Drive in support of the Zebra Centre supporting youth who have experienced abuse. Bring in a new toy or make a $25 donation at any LOVEPIZZA location in the Edmonton area by Dec. 20 and you’ll get a free signature size menu pizza. Here’s the toy drive poster!

  • Go for a fantastic brunch at The Butternut Tree (9707 110 St.)

    • I had just the best brunch last weekend at The Butternut Tree—their Saturday & Sunday brunch menu includes a fantastic Alberta Beef Wellington with poached egg and Hollandaise! Every bite was absolutely delightful. My friend Sharman also loved her Loco Moco (gluten-free with gravy subtituted for Hollandaise sauce!)

  • Try all-you-can-eat Japanese BBQ at Gyu-Kaku (10416 Jasper Ave.)

  • Grab some chocolates and celebrate JACEK’s new location (9674 142 St.)

  • Check out the Vietnamese sandwiches from Banh Mi Cali (10503 Kingsway Ave.)

    • I popped into Banh Mi Cali to grab some Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches on my way to visit my mom in the hospital recently (she is okay!) They offer sandwiches on the typical Baguette or something you don’t see at other banh mi shops—toppings in a French Roll! All bread baked fresh daily. It was great!

  • Here’s a few more food events coming up you may be interested in…

Ate something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.
