This Guide has been a long-time coming!
I first wanted to map out a Guide to Instagrammable Walls of West Edmonton Mall back in 2018. Every time I visited the mall (North America’s largest shopping mall) I had always noticed some lovely walls and thought they would make for a really nice photo backdrop.
Now (in 2019), Instagrammable Walls at Malls seem to be gaining in popularity! Which is awesome and well-timed for this post!!
If this is your first time reading one of my Instagrammable Wall Guides, this is how I describe Instagrammable Walls: an interesting or beautiful looking wall you can be photographed against. It can be a mural wall, it can be a colourful wall, it can just be an interesting texture wall! It needs to be tall or wide enough so that there is enough uninterrupted wall as your background (no windows or doors getting in the way), if it’s something you’d like to post on your Instagram (that pretty, Instagrammable aesthetic!) and if it’s easy to access (typically I avoid indoor walls because sometimes it’s hard to get to, or it draws a bit too much attention if you’re trying to do a shoot, but malls are generally large and public enough that it’ll work!) Not all murals and all walls are Instagrammable by my definition, but many are, you just need to start noticing them a bit more!
Most of the walls at West Edmonton Mall are just interesting colours or textures. I love that! Mural walls are obviously Instagrammable whereas these more subtle walls just need someone to point out that they’re pretty for more people to think, hey, it really is.

Note: these walls were designed by @bailliescheetz and are a temporary pilot program but given their success (how many people are flocking to them to take and share photos!) some kind of permanent Instagrammable Wall space is. likely to be installed as well.
