Two ATV riders sent to hospital after crash near Morinville

Two people were sent to hospital Saturday night after an ATV collision south west of Morinville.

Witnesses say the two victims had flipped their quad after hitting a mound of dirt on a private property in the area of Hwy 37 near Range Road 255 around 11 p.m. Saturday.

Emergency crews were called to the scene.

“We had two injured who have been taken to hospital. They were on the ATV,” said Cnst. Samantha Barrett with Morinville RCMP.

Police say the two ATV riders were an adult male and female.

They were both taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP say alcohol is a possible factor in the crash but the investigation is ongoing.

Police are reminding ATV operators to ride safely.

“Think about it if you’re going to go out at night time, it’s dark, especially if you’re on unknown property. You have to really take those precautions as to where you are and when you’re doing it,” Barrett said.

“Seat belts are the biggest thing and watch your speed.”

There have been at least four other ATV-related crashes in the province, three of those crashes fatal, in recent weeks, prompting safety warnings from police.

A 12-year-old girl from Hinton was most recently killed after an ATV crash Saturday.
