Things to do this week: cheer on the Edmonton Elks, check out The Art of Uli, Dig In to the St. Albert food festival and more!
  • Shop the Geeky Gift Holiday Market (Alberta Aviation Museum)

    • Check out the Geeky Gift Holiday Market this weekend at the Alberta Aviation Museum on Saturday Nov 6 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday Nov 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Find “geeky wares” from local vendors at this “fandom filled market.” Entry is by food bank donation and masks are mandatory, proof of vaccination required.

  • Cheer on Edmonton Elks at their last home game (Commonwealth Stadium)

  • Sip, Savour and Dig In to St. Albert’s Dining Week (various locations)

    • St. Albert’s annual food festival Dig In runs Nov 5-14. Find special $15, $20 breakfast/lunch and 2-3-course dinner options for $25/$35 or $50 at 19 different restaurants in the city. Browse menus and enter their contest to win gift cards to participating restaurants.

  • Take in the Alberta Ballet’s Swan Lake (Northern Jubilee Auditorium)

    • Love. Sorcery. Triumph. Alberta Ballet’s highly anticipated world premiere of Christopher Anderson’s Swan Lake runs at the Northern Jubilee Auditorium from Nov. 5-7. This is a fantastical, passionate, coming of age story whee forces of evil attempt to thwart the love between young Prince Siegfried and the Swan Queen, Odette.

  • Final weekend of The Art of Uli (Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts)

    • The Art of Uli is a celebration of The Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts’ 2021 Artist of the Year. This is the last weekend of the exhibit (it wraps up Nov. 6) and features Uli Rossier’s work, which is described as intuitive and playful, evoking joy of nature and daily life. While you’re hanging out along 118 Ave, be sure to visit some of my fav spots, Samosa House, Green Onion Cake Man, and Paraiso Tropical Latin Market.

How about a special, last minute mountain getaway? I’ll be in Jasper this weekend as an invited guest (hosted) at their “A Weekend With… Vikram Vij, Michael Allemeier and Giselle Corteau.” This is a smaller scale, different event in place of their typical Christmas in November, but still promises lots of dining opportunities and of course—an escape to beautiful Jasper at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. Tons of food, drink and entertainment is included with the package if you’re interested and able to book a last minute mountain getaway, the JPL is always an amazing experience!

Food to Try This Week

Lindorks Lists 89 - Things to Do Eat Know This Week - Edmonton Food - Events - Expore - Travel 2
Eats to consider this week: a new hamachi restaurant, hand made noodles in Old Strathcona, Explore Edmonton food and drink passes, and more!

Many restaurants have now implemented Alberta’s Restrictions Exemption Program (show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test in order to dine-in). Please be prepared to show ID / proof of vaccination when dining in (and check which restaurants are in the program or which are just doing take-out before you decide where to go). Please safely support local!

  • Slurp up hand made noodles at Lan Noodle (10475 82 Ave.)

    • I tried Lan Noodle in Old Strathcona for the first time last week and my soup was excellent! I had the House Special Beef Noodle Soup and would recommend! Even better: watching the noodles being made to order right before our eyes. Super cool experience.

  • Check out a new hibachi Japanese restaurant (10430 61 Ave.)

    • There’s a new Japanese hibachi (teppanyaki) style restaurant called Hibachi Edmonton who reached out to ask if I could let people know they’ve recently opened! This style of cooking is typically done on an “iron plate” and you may be familiar with it where the chef cooks your food right at your table so it’s a bit of entertainment too. I’m told this restaurant cooks in the same style in their kitchen, but not right at the table (but maybe down the road). They also have sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese staples. If you go, let me know how you like it!!

  • Try Bleu Flames fondue restaurant (3880 Sherwood Dr., Sherwood Park)

    • Thanks Kelsey for sharing about Bleu Flames fondue restaurant in Sherwood Park. If you’ve never have fondue, it’s basically cooking your ingredients in a hot pot (similar to Asian hot pot). From meats to cheese and fruits, I always enjoy fondue night and look forward to trying this new to me restaurant (looks like they opened last October).

  • Pick up an Italian Centre Countdown to Christmas Advent Calendar

  • Order a ramen kit from @kaseyramen (online)

    • My friend Phil recommended I check out the ramen kits made by @kaseyramen and I thought I’d share that recommendation with you! This Edmonton based home ramen shop sells a limited number of take-home, make your own ramen kits, somewhat sporadically. Follow their Instagram for updates. Phil says it’s a must try!

  • Get discounts at dozens of Edmonton restaurants/breweries

    • I’ve partnered with Explore Edmonton promote their discount passes—which are FREE to sign up for and gives you freebies at dozens of local restaurants and breweries. Check out the participating businesses in the Brewery Pass, Downtown Dining Pass, and Old Strathcona Pass. It’s free to sign-up and it makes a great list for food and/or drink crawling!

    • For instance, in Old Strathcona you can get Buy One Get One Free at Yelo’d, or up to 25% off at Sugared & Spiced, Downtown you can get 10% off your bill at Little Brick or 20% off your entree at The Moth, or at local Breweries you can 25% off all beer purchases at Polar Park Brewing, or 10% off your bill at Campio. Enjoy!!

  • Happy one-year anniversary to Bonne Vie Bakery!

    • Congratulations to my friend Larry on the one-year anniversary of his micro bakery Bonne Vie Bakery. I was going to suggest you order to celebrate the occasion but he’s already sold out so keep him in mind for next week’s bake!

Ate something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.
