Food To Try This Week
Please safely support local restaurants. Cases are on the rise again, and restaurants may still require you to wear masks when not eating. Please be kind and respectful.
Celebrate Dorinku Tokyo’s 5th anniversary (10205 82 Ave.)
Dorinku Tokyo in Old Strathcona is celebrating five years with $5 Sapporo pints and $5 daily appetizer deals until Aug. 31. I had an awesome dinner there this week (the ramen salad isn’t part of the appetizer deal but I always get it when I’m there, so good!) Consider celebrating with them this month!
Try some Korean BBQ (various locations)
I was on CBC Edmonton AM Wednesday morning talking about places to enjoy BBQ in Edmonton—including Korean BBQ options! Korean BBQ is different from your traditional American / Southern style in many ways, including it’s typically a group – shared food experience, the meats usually come thinly sliced so you cook it yourself at the table (which typically includes a built-in grill of some kind), the sauces are quite different, and you usually get Korean banchan small side dishes that go along with the main course. It’s absolutely delicious (as is all Korean cuisine) and in Edmonton, you might want to try it at Ginseng, Baekjeong, or Korean Village.
Show some love to a local downtown coffee shop (various locations)
News this week that the 109 Street and Jasper Ave. Starbucks has permanently shuttered, had me thinking of local downtown coffee shops to show some love to, like a Credo, Coffee Bureau, or Lock Stock. Appreciating most of these don’t stay open that late but, still lol. If you haven’t tried, you may also be interested in getting a local Coffee Pass!
Order steak, pasta and cocktails at Barbacoa (470 South Ave, Spruce Grove)
Mike and I had a delicious meal at Barbacoa steak house in Spruce Grove this week. A perfect medium rare striploin, handmade pasta pappardelle with Italian sausage, beef short rib and grilled vegetable ragu, and mmm, their gin, soho, lychee cocktail is fantastic.
Try the salad rolls from Malaysian Cuisine (Downtown Farmers Market)
@elaine_lovinglife shared a photo of the beautiful salad rolls she got from Malaysian Cuisine, a Downtown Farmers Market vendor, that caught my eye! She said it was the best salad rolls she’s ever had and she’ll be rushing to the market regularly to purchase it. I can’t wait to give it a try too!
Ate something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.
Small Business Spotlight
In this new section of Lindork’s Lists, I shout out to support small businesses that aren’t necessarily food/restaurant or event-based.
In this week’s Small Business Spotlight, I’m shouting out to:
Vitaliteas, a local, Black, women-owned tea business that is focused on offering a smooth, healthy, flavourful drink that doesn’t taste fake or artificial. Shop Vitaliteas’ Black, Green, Black + Green, Herbal, Decaffeineated and Chai Mix. You can shop online, at local vendors, and in major Sobeys and Safeway grocers (congrats to them for getting into those grocery stores!) Vitaliteas gifted me some tea a couple months ago and I really enjoyed them.
If you’re a small business owner who could use a shout-out, or know a small business who could use some awareness, let me know and I’ll try to feature them in this new section. Email me suggestions!
