Food To Try This Week

Please safely support local restaurants. Although Alberta is lifting restrictions, many restaurants will still require you to wear masks when not eating. Please be kind and respectful.

Eats to consider this week: seven courses of Vietnamese beef, dog-friendly patios, cheese tarts, robot hot pot and more!
  • Order seven courses of beef at La Pagode Vietnamese (17024 90 Ave.)

    • I satisfied some serious cravings for Vietnamese Bò 7 món (seven courses of beef) last week with a visit to La Pagode in west Edmonton. This is a multi-course Vietnamese meal that features seven beef dishes designed to be shared. To my knowledge, you can only get Bò 7 món at La Pagode. It’s excellent for 2-4 people!

  • Check out the cute robot server at Chili Hot Pot (7219 104 St.)

    • My first in-restaurant hot pot experience since the pandemic began took place this week at Chili Hot Pot in south Edmonton, which was featured in this viral TikTok by @mshangryfoodie a few weeks ago. It was delicious, as most of my hot pot experiences are! If you go after 9 p.m. they offer 20% off (and it’s a little less crowded). The robot is super cute (there are still human servers too lol). You can also use my old blog post How to Hot Pot at Home if you’re wanting hot pot but not wanting to go into a hot pot restaurant!

  • Try the Japanese cheese tarts at Pablo Cheese Tarts (10153 81 Ave.)

    • I waited a few months to try Pablo Cheese Tarts in Old Strathcona because the line-ups during their opening few weeks were apparently wild. If you haven’t tried yet, there are no line-ups now lol so you can quickly get your order of delicious tarts and drinks. We enjoyed a few mini tarts (matcha, apple cinnamon and original), as well as their Dreamy Mango drink! They also have a dog-friendly patio!

  • Order a charcuterie board from Brand and Iron (home-based / Parkland County)

    • Lindsey, the owner of Brand and Iron, a home-based, Metis-owned charcuterie business in Parkland County (west of Edmonton), reached out and gifted me a board to try this week. It was beautiful and delicious, and a perfect lunch treat for our friends who were visiting from Medicine Hat. Check out the board we got and follow Lindsey @BrandAndIron / consider ordering from her. She makes custom boards for all occasions, big and small, and is going to be expanding to a storefront in Parkland County by end of summer!

  • Enjoy pretzels, mustard and sausages and more on the Fleisch patio (8210 106 Ave.)

Ate something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.

Small Business Spotlight

In this section of Lindork’s Lists, I shout out to support small businesses that aren’t necessarily food/restaurant or event-based.

In this week’s Small Business Spotlight, I’m shouting out to:

MYLZ Dog Treats, an Edmonton-based dog treat business creating high quality, unique flavour treats for pooches. MYLZ uses all-natural ingredients, locally made with love. The group of friends started the company because they love their dogs, and wanted to ensure that their treats will give them the energy and vitality to play for years to come. MYLZ offers delivery in Edmonton and surrounding areas, as well as shipping in Alberta and across Canada.

My pups Olive and Artie were obsessed with these treats—even Loki my cat tried to dig into the bag because it smelled so good lol. I also appreciate the unique flavours—from kangaroo carrot jerky to turkey banana turmeric biscuits, plus bison apple coconut and bison blueberry treats. Browse MYLZ Treats and support this local biz!

If you’re a small business owner who could use a shout-out, or know a small business who could use some awareness, let me know and I’ll try to feature them in this new section. You can email me suggestions / reply to this email.

This Sunday: Q&A with Nicholas Yee

Every other Sunday, I profile a new “interesting person” in a Q&A series just for paid newsletter subscribers. The next person I’ll be profiling on Sunday, August 8, 2021 is Nicholas Yee, an Edmonton-based musician and creative director.

Q&A with Nicholas Yee
My Q&A with Nicholas Yee goes out to paid subscribers on Aug 8, 2021.

Here’s an excerpt from our Q&A:

“Having done a lot of work in creative industries and knowing other artists, I’ve really seen the way that creative professionals are typically undervalued. I’ve been really lucky over the years to have people who trusted in me and gave me the freedom to shape those projects, and also to have a supportive online community. So at (my business) Juniper Creates, I’m really trying to establish an environment where designers, illustrators, and copywriters can work for clients that really appreciate design and where they have the creative freedom to explore their own style and vision.” – Nicholas Yee
