Ready for rooftop performances? Jubefest kicks off
The Northern Jubilee Auditorium has kicked off “JubeFest” a series of rooftop / drive-in experiences to enjoy this summer starting this weekend with rooftop comedy. More programming will be made throughout the summer!! Get your tickets to this weekend’s festivities (jubilees?) If you’re in Calgary (though you probably aren’t because I really only talk about Edmonton lol) the Southern Jubilee Auditorium is also doing JubeFest!
Check out the About Light immersive art experience
There’s a new immersive (Instagrammable!!) light / art gallery in Edmonton! About Light is a digital art space that incorporates immersive, projected (light!) art with other traditional and new media experiences, working with local artists to showcase their work in new and exciting ways. About Light is located in City Centre Mall East Building Main Floor near Winners & Coles. Attending is free but donations are encouraged. Check out events and current exhibits.
Explore St. Albert’s Art In The Open
Take an art walk (and drive) around St. Albert this Saturday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (rain or shine) as part of the St. Albert Painters Guild’s Art in the Open event. Meet artists in their environment. Find cards, prints, and other products for sale. Check out the full list of participating artists (over 30!) and get a map of their locations. Thanks to artist Tracy Lyn for posting about this—which is where I learned of it!
Try Fruit Loop’s AR Pride Tour for Pride Month
The Edmonton Fruit Loop organization has created an Augmented Reality Pride Tour you can self-navigate to 10 different locations across the city and access over 50 performers and speakers from your phone!
Got an Edmonton area event, virtual event, or something coming up you think my readers would be interested in knowing about? Let me know!
Food To Try This Week
Please safely support local restaurants. Review current Alberta COVID-19 restrictions here.
Try the bison burger or bannock donair from Tee Pee Treats (11725 93 St.)
This week I met Chef Scott Iserhoff of Pei Pei Chei Ow and Chef Curtis Cardinal of Tee Pee Treats, as part of a Travel Alberta video project we are doing about Indigenous food experiences in Edmonton. It was such an amazing day learning about Indigenous food from these two. Pei Pei Chei Ow doesn’t have a permanent space yet, but you can book a virtual cooking class, and be sure to try the bison burger or bannock donair from Tee Pee Treats—so good! I can’t wait to blog and share the video from my chat with them later this summer, stay tuned!
Don’t miss order deadlines for Father’s Day food (various locations)
I didn’t do a full round-up of all the Father’s Day specials being offered around town but here are three options to consider:
Pampa West or South Edmonton is offering pre-cooked Father’s Day take-out feasts for 2-3 or 5-6 people, or a Father’s Day ‘Butcher Shop BBQ Kit’ where dad can grill up the meats himself!
Chef Table Living has launched a brand new Chef Kit featuring Pork Gyoza and Miso Salad virtually instructed by Chef Mai Nguyen. Cook up some delicious gyoza for dad. There’s also drink add-ons. And if you use my code LINDORK10 you can get 10% off your order.
My dad is the hugest fan of SABOR’s seafood paella. If there’s a special occasion coming up, he asks for this in advance. lol. If you haven’t tried it, you must! And also like everything else on SABOR’s menu is divine.
Get doughnuts from the Sherwood Park Bakery (969 Ordze Rd., Sherwood Park)
Brandy highly recommends the honey dip donuts from the Sherwood Park Bakery, describing them as “the best donut I’ve ever had, period, exclamation point” and “like eating delicious, delicious, buttery air.” My friend Ashleigh I think has also raved about this spot. I’ve still got to try it!
Order up some Chef Hung noodles (10336 81 Ave.)
Diane dug into the A2 (Champion Beef Brisket Noodle) or A4 (Beef Shank, Tendon, Tripe Noodle Soup) bowls from Chef Hung in Old Strathcona this week. Choose flat, thin or rice thin noodles, or a bean threads!
Stock up on Nai Nai Mie noodles before they close (online)
I was legitimately shocked to see Nai Nai Mie noodles’ announcement that they were shutting down at the end of June. They were planning pop-up dinners and had just celebrated an anniversary, they were getting stocked up through so many Alberta online grocery stores.. I’m really not sure what happened but please show support by ordering noodles before they’re gone (June 30!) I’ll be stocking up on a ton of their Hot Chicks noodle kits!
Ate something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.
Small Business Spotlight
In this new section of Lindork’s Lists, I shout out to support small businesses that aren’t necessarily food/restaurant or event-based.
In this week’s Small Business Spotlight, I’m shouting out to:
Bay 1 Gallery, a new Edmonton gallery located at 9540 62 Ave., dedicated to representing a roster of Canadian artists spanning generations and cultures, through multiple mediums. The gallery is focused on fine art, furniture and community and will be hosting a number of different events all summer including a Summer Sidewalk Art Show (every Saturday in June), the upcoming June 19 Dads, Drafts & Design, June 26 Fresh Art and Freezies, and more!
As you can imagine, opening anything—let alone a fine art gallery—during a pandemic can be difficult, so be sure to plan a visit to this south Edmonton gallery this week, next, this summer, soon. Watch their social media and website for new events!
