Lindork’s Lists #51 – Lunar New Year food, a weekend of winter festivals and more!

Things to Do This Week

Please note: Alberta has restrictions in place to address COVID-19I do encourage you to try and support local businesses during this time, if you’re able, but in a safe way. Wear masks, sanitize regularly, avoid crowds, keep at a distance, shop alone, choose take-out and stay home if you are sick and choose digital options if available.

Celebrate winter this weekend at Silver Skate, Deep Freeze, the U of A Botanic Garden, and more!
  • Celebrate winter with the kick-off of Silver Skate Festival’s Week of Winter
    • This year’s Silver Skate Festival, Edmonton’s longest-running winter festival, is now a “Week of Winter” (Feb 12-21) encouraging everyone to embrace winter activities, check out all sorts of art and snow installations at Hawrelak Park, plan cross country ski, skate, toboggan, and other winter recreation and sport, and more!! Share with #SilverSkate and tag @SilverSkateFest and watch their social media for chances to win prizes just for sharing about how you are enjoying winter! (I’m helping them with social media so I’d also love to see your winter activity photos lol).

  • Check out the art installations at Deep Freeze Festival or sculptures for Ice on Whyte

    • Check out allllll the winter sculptures and fun at this year’s Deep Freeze Festival! I’ve seen some photos of the art installations at Borden Park and they look amazing. I’ll be checking it out this weekend. (runs until Feb. 14). And check out the lovely sculptures for Ice on Whyte.

  • Partake in winter date night under the starts at the Botanic Garden

    • The University of Alberta Botanic Garden is putting on Date Night Under the Stars Feb 13 & 14! Bundle up for a stroll in the beautiful winter garden, taken in live music, and add on tapas, moonlight snowshoeing, Indigenous Dark Sky storytelling, or light paint photography (cool!)

  • Meet someone at MilkCrate’s online singles Valentine’s cooking class

  • Attend the online Edmonton Eats Valentine’s Honey Bee Mine event

    • Take part in a “virtual honey sweetened weekend” at the Edmonton Eats Honey Bee Mine full of online cooking demos, learning and fun. You’ll get a honey kit, recipes, ingredient and prep lists. The event is hosted by local chefs, honey vendors, and cultural hosts from Libya. Neat! Or should I say, sweet!

Got an Edmonton area event, virtual event, or something coming up you think my readers would be interested in knowing about? Let me know!

Vietnamese Tet Lunar New Year Food Edmonton Traditional Meal

I’ve been reconnecting with more of my Vietnamese culture and heritage these days, and as we enter the Year of the Ox (Lunar New Year) this weekend (Feb 12, 2021), I’m excited to share about some of my Vietnamese Lunar New Year traditions over on my blog (including food we eat, games we play, outfits we wear, and more). I hope if you celebrate—you have a wonderful (though different) New Years celebration. If you don’t celebrate, I hope you enjoy learning about Vietnamese Lunar New Year customs.

This week I also wrote An Edmonton Farmers’ Market Love Story!

I hope you read about how Damini Mohan of Mini Kitchen and Connor Pellow of El Gringo Foods grew their relationship—and business—at the markets.

Our Ultimate Goat Yoga Stance. People thought this photo was Photoshopped but it wasn't!

During this time two years ago, I was soaking up the sun and exploring Mesa, Arizona with Flair Airlines and Tourism Mesa, where I shared 12 Things To Do in Mesa, Arizona including Everything You Need To Know About Arizona Goat Yoga!

This pandemic period has definitely been the longest time I’ve gone without air travel. It’s weird to think that was such a big driver of my year—where would we go next. I miss it a lot, and though I’m happy to continue exploring our backyard right now, I can’t wait to see where we get to when we’re able to fly again.

Where’s the first place you’ll go when you can again?
