Food to Try This Week!
Slurp the soup dumplings and try steam buns at Mr. Bun (10828 Whyte Ave.)
Over the weekend I was treated to a tasty group lunch at Mr. Bun! If you’ve never been, they specialize in handmade soup dumplings (it’s really cool to watch “Mr. Bun” make the dumplings!), steam buns and noodle dishes. Although Shanghai 456 will always be my #1 soup dumpling spot in the city, Mr. Bun is a great option for south Edmonton and I was happy to see them relatively busy on that Saturday morning.
Share the menu at Fu’s Repair Shop (10524 Jasper Ave.)
My friends recently came in from Calgary and Vancouver and I had to take them to one of the coolest spots in the city—Fu’s Repair Shop! We shared a bunch of items on the menu including all night dim sum, lychee green Szechuan aguachile, peachy shrimp, Spicy Tom Yum crispy wings, 5 spice duck tacos, crazy rich rice noodles and more. Plus the best cocktails (and non-alcoholic drinks!) The food + drinks + vibes are so good.
Grab breakfast in the deep south at The Bro’kin Yolk (1641 102 St.)
I recently had breakfast at The Bro’kin Yolk in south Edmonton for my friend Pam’s birthday. I’m a fan of this Calgary-founded breakfast spot which includes traditional breakfast favourites including tasty individual waffles plus Filipino-inspired dishes!
Support Playwright Restaurant inside the Citadel Theatre (10177 99 St.)
PlayWright, the wonderful restaurant inside the Citadel Theatre, is going through some challenges with new summer construction right outside where its patio was supposed to be this season. Consider intentionally popping in for lunch or dinner to help them out in the coming months! Chef Steve Brochu makes delicious food!
Mix and match tacos at Taqueria el Chingon (8116 101 St.)
Diane stopped into the new-ish Taqueria el Chingon Mexican restaurant in the alleyway at 101 St. off Whyte Ave., and really enjoyed her tacos!
“I had birria and pastor tacos (you can choose two proteins within an order) and both were very good but the best part are the tortillas they make themselves! Also the horchata is refreshing on a hot day and has that nice cinnamon-y flavour. It is incredibly tiny but they have one large table and bar seating for 5-6 plus two picnic tables outside but be prepared for take out.”
I like that they let you mix and match taco flavours as I feel like that’s not super common at other Mexican eateries in town. Can’t wait to try it myself!
