Food to Try This Week!
Try the all-you-can-eat at Dagu Rice Noodle (10408 Jasper Ave.)
One of my fav local eateries Dagu Rice Noodle is offering an awesome All You Can Eat menu after 4 p.m. Monday through Fridays and all day Saturday & Sundays. For $29.99 you can order all you can eat Chinese rice noodle soups with a variety of toppings and appetizers. Choose from 20 soup bases (including two kids-specific dishes), unlimited add-ons (toppings, like noodles, beef, lamb, shrimp, mushrooms, tofu, meatballs and more), plus appetizers (the salty crispy chicken is a superior must-order item!) It’s great! Super filling, delicious, and a great value if you can eat a lot of food.
Check out Istanbul Kebab and Donair (12256 132 Ave.)
I know a few folks who recently had a Turkish feast at Istanbul Kebab and Donair and highly recommend it! They suggested going with a larger group so you can try everything (or more things) as the Turkish menu is really large (find Turkish breakfast items, kebabs, pitas, soups, donairs, a variety of appetizers, desserts and more.
Bite into a really good sandwich at Pals (10335 83 Ave.)
I was recently reminded of how much I love sandwiches from Pals Sandwiches when I had their Crispy Chicken sandwich on sesame milk bun (a mini version) at the Edify Best Restaurants event, and wanted to suggest you go for a sammie there soon. My typical order there is their Hoagie.
My intern Alex is almost wrapping up his practicum so let’s appreciate some of his final food recommendations!
Alex wants you to visit Paris Baguette! “I’m obsessed with this place. It’s basically like a bread buffet! Once you go in, you head over and grab a tray with a pair of tongs. From there you get to pick out as many pastries as you want. I love the selection they have, and sometimes it’s hard to choose because it all looks so good.” They have two locations, one in Old Strathcona (10402 Whyte Ave.) and West Edmonton Mall.
And here are some upcoming food events you may be interested in!

From the Blog Vault
April 30 marks the 50th anniversary of the Fall of the Saigon.
This was the day Saigon in southern Vietnam was captured by the North Vietnamese army, ending the Vietnam war and marking the start of Vietnam as a communist country. The Fall of Saigon led to a mass exodus of Vietnamese refugees—including my parents. If you’re in Vietnam, it’s known as Victory Day or Independence Day, and its quite a celebration. For immigrants outside of Vietnam, it’s quite a sombre, sad, painful day.
I’ve written about the Fall of Saigon previously, for the 40th anniversary and the 34th anniversary, and hope to write something for the upcoming 50th anniversary. I am also hoping to organize a local event to mark the milestone (not this month but in the coming months). More details on that soon! In the meantime, thought I would share the previous blog posts I’ve written on the subject if you’re interested.
