And honestly, we just like to order from our favourite restaurants for Valentine’s Day typically. I like Valentine’s plans that are reflective of the couple so doing something that you both love to do / the thoughtful, meaningful thing, is always going to be a win.
Don’t miss the final weekend of Silver Skate Festival (Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park)
Silver Skate Festival wraps up Feb 17 but don’t miss daily FREE outdoor winter programming on at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park in the days leading up to Family Day Monday. Weekends are always a really wonderful vibe!
Check out incredible Snow Sculptures and epic Fire Sculpture Burns (Friday-Sundays). There’s snow slides or ball and sledge hockey, beautiful art installations (illuminated at night), wonderful Indigenous cultural experiences at Heritage Village, an International Festival of Winter Cinema (films on a giant snow screen!), ice bikes, public skating of course, and more!
I work with the festival every February so say hello if you see me on site!
If you’re only coming down once I usually recommend a Saturday or Sunday around 4 p.m. so you can get a day AND night experience, but be sure to check out the full schedule to see what activities + timing makes the most sense for you and honestly, come more than once! It’s FREE!
You can also get a 50/50 online raffle ticket to support the event (and win half the jackpot). Or find other ways to support this free, community event.

Food to Try This Week!
Try the beef and spinach from Rayyan Restaurant (10019 106 Ave.)
If you haven’t tried the East African (Somalian/Kenyan) cuisine from Rayyan Restaurant in Chinatown—give them a try! They’re so good. And the owner Noor and his team are super lovely. I named just beef and spinach but we tried a bunch chicken, fish, samosas, they were all great. Also Somali tea!
Try the food court at the new south side Lucky Supermarket (2950 Calgary Trail)
I recently popped into the new south side Lucky Supermarket (Asian grocer) and it is big, bright, and fully stocked. Congrats to them on their opening (I hope it doesn’t take too many people away from their Chinatown location though lol) but I can see it being convenient for southside folks.
Subscriber Diane shared that she has tried the Vietnamese banh mi and pho in the supermarket’s food court and was impressed. There’s dim sum, fried chicken, Japanese bowls, sushi, skewers, Chinese BBQ, plus all the groceries all in one space. The convenience!
Check out Taproot Edmonton’s roundup of Valentine’s menus in Edmonton!
I normally include more food suggestions but I really haven’t been out much this past week! I’ll include more suggestions next week. But also if you, dear reader, have a place you want to recommend, please let me know!
