Food to Try This Week!
Try authentic Nigerian cuisine at Lochi Afro Nija (10335 100 Ave.)
I really enjoyed my jollof rice, fried rice and suya beef from Lochi Afro Nija restaurant in downtown Edmonton last week. What you can always count on with African cuisine is the bold, spiced flavours. My spice tolerance and tastebuds are always humbled when I have Nigerian food lol. Hot and delicious!!! Keeps me coming back for more. The restaurant has only been open two months and I hope it has a long life in Edmonton! As my friend Rochelle said, it is nice to see more dine-in Black-owned restaurants opening.
Get all-day dim sum from Good Buddy in Granville (3026 Granville Dr.)
I shared some late afternoon dim sum with friends over the weekend at Good Buddy Granville in west Edmonton. We got some dim sum classics (siu mai, har gow, spare ribs, deep fried wontons), and I also picked up some take-out for the family including century egg and pork congee and crispy chicken. They also do a fun charcoal (black) egg custard bun.
Celebrate Breadlove and Little Darling Coffee (46C St Michael St., St. Albert)
Breadlove artisan bakehouse and bread school in St. Albert is celebrating five years of their brick and mortar shop this weekend Saturday Nov. 30 from 2 to 6 p.m. The new Little Darling Coffee House is also celebrating its grand opening inside the Breadlove storefront on Friday, Nov. 29 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Consider popping in to celebrate both small businesses this weekend.
Grab a sandwich from Lift Me Up Sandwich Bar (12407 108 Ave.)
Congratulations to the folks at Tiramisu Bistro for opening up the new Lift Me Up Sandwich Bar. I sure love their little corner of 124 St. Great food + great vibes. These are focaccia sandwiches (very Italian!) and I look forward to popping in to try soon (you could do your own Tiramisu Food Crawl with stops at the bakery, bistro and sandwich bar now!)
Celebrate the 2-year anniversary of Luna Mexican Restaurant (9880 63 Ave.)
Happy two years to Luna Mexican Restaurant! This is one of my favourite Mexican spots in the city (and their queso fundido is unmatched!!) Be sure to plan a visit to celebrate the milestone (and eat good food lol).
Pick up a local advent calendar! (various locations)
I didn’t have time to update my local advent calendar blog guide this year but the folks at Taproot Edmonton have put together a nice round-up of local advents you can get a hold of including liquor, chocolate, and tea ones. You can also reference my old blog and just double check the spots you’re interested in to see if they have released a 2024 edition.
