Food to Try This Week!
Get Vietnamese-inspired drinks from Mai Mai Vietnamese Street Kitchen
I was recently raving about Mai Mai Vietnamese Street Kitchen in south Edmonton to my friend Sharon including / especially their fun Vietnamese twists on drinks, including the Pho Old Fashioned, Saigon Negroni or Hanoi Espresso Martini. So fun, so lovely! Great drinks, food + vibes here always.
Try the Mochi Cheese Honey Pizza from Urban Plant Cafe (9261 34 Ave.)
I visited the plant-filled Korean coffee shop Urban Plant Cafe and really enjoyed their Mochi Cheese Honey Pizza!! Delicious and different (and I almost didn’t mind there were no meat toppings lol). This spot also has a bunch of coffees, lattes, frappes, teas, slushes, smoothies, ‘ades’ (lemonade and other flavours), and bubble teas, plus different desserts like Korean bingsu (condensed milk, shaved ice fruit dessert), a bunch of waffle options, croffles, croissants, and honey butter bread.
Experience an interactive art dinner at HALO Bar | Bistro (Edmonton Airport)
Thanks to HALO Bar | Bistro for inviting me to try Seven Paintings, their art-themed, interactive 3D dinner theatre! Originating in Germany, Edmonton is the first city in North America to host a Seven Paintings experience where your dinner is split into seven “Acts” (courses) highlighting seven masters of art, representing different regions of the world. Each course comes with music, illumination, and narrative and as a diner, you also get to interact in each course, like pouring and painting sauces, or mixing your own welcome cocktail. It’s really cool! Seven Paintings is super fun and the food was great. I found the vibe to be excellent, weird, a little chaotic lol. But fun. Try it!
Check out FIRST Cafe to celebrate LAST Modern Events’ birthday
LAST Modern Events venue just celebrated their first birthday so I thought it could be cute to suggest you pop into their FIRST Cafe as a way to congratulate them on the milestone.
Visit these two restaurants before they close…
Nomiya Japanese Restaurant’s Ellerslie location is closing on Nov. 27 and Biera and the Blind Enthusiasm Market Brewery is closing at the end of December. Nomiya’s Calgary Trail location will continue and Biera’s “The Monolith” brewery will also continue. Consider giving these locations some love before they’re gone.
Grab Barbacoa tacos from La Patrona (2 Athabascan Ave, Sherwood Park)
I really enjoyed my Barbacoa tacos from La Patrona Mexican restaurant in Sherwood Park last week. They’ve been a popular local restaurant in the area since 2017. The Barbacoa (similar to a Birria but with no cheese) is top beef sirloin and brisket marinated with Mexican dry chiles and cerveza wrapped in banana leaves to slowly braise for 8 hours and it comes with a dipping beef broth as well. Excellent! Their Queso Fundido is also great (though Luna’s is still my favourite spot for Queso in Edmonton).
And here’s a few food events you may be interested in…
