Food to Try This Week!
Try the new fall additions at Uncle Ed’s Restaurant (4824 118 Ave.)
Uncle Ed’s Restaurant (known for their Mundare Sausage), has added two tasty, meaty fall additions to the menu that I really want to dig into it: Pepperoni chips with house-made honey mustard and Kubbie Poutine (crispy fries, melty cheese curd, house mushroom gravy with chunks of classic Kubbie Patty). Drooooooling!
Support some local businesses dealing with vandalism (various locations)
I shared about four Edmonton businesses dealing with recent, random break-ins, theft and vandalism and suggested you support them: Toast Culture, in downtown Edmonton (get the ahi tuna toast or try their Birch and Bear Pizza at night). Little Bon Bon Ice Cream, in Chinatown (currently a fan of the sherbet flavour). Lloyd’s Patty Distro behind MacEwan downtown. Love their authentic, homemade Jamaican patties which come in beef, chicken or vegetable (regular or spicy) and you can have it as a breakfast patty with cheese + egg. Ate a lot of these last week! And Chicken For You, a small, family-owned Korean eatery on 118th Avenue near NAIT, specializing in crispy, tasty Korean fried chicken.
Bring the kids + fam to dine at the River Cree Casino restaurants (various)
My family celebrated my parents’ birthday at Cha Xpress inside the River Cree Resort & Casino this week, taking advantage of the new relaxed age access rules at the casino. They recently began allowing minors (under 18, accompanied by an adult) access through the property to the many restaurants on site (just not on the casino floor of course). We had a great Chinese food dinner but their other restaurants also offer some pretty great dining deals you may be interested in!
And here’s a few restaurant milestones you could celebrate…
Celebrate 15 years of OEB Breakfast Co. (various locations)
You’re always guaranteed a great meal at OEB Breakfast Co., who are celebrating their 15-year anniversary (they began in Calgary in 2009!) Celebrate at one of three locations in Edmonton. I am partial to their breakfast poutines.
Celebrate 15 years of Duchess Bake Shop (10718 124 St.)
Duchess Bake Shop is celebrating 15 years this October and you’re invited to try their Birthday Cake Macaron to celebrate! These macaron masters are beloved for a reason.
Celebrate 5 years of Dagu Rice Noodle (10408 Jasper Ave.)
Dagu Rice Noodle has been serving up some of my favourite noodle soups in the city for five years now! Congratulations. They had some promos last week that timing-wise did not work for the newsletter lol but watch for likely more five-year celebration promotions throughout the month and try their Crossing the Bridge Noodle Soup, Dry Spicy Chicken and excellent fruit drinks if you haven’t yet! I’m going this week.
Check out the Black Lagoon Pop-up at Dolly’s Cocktails (9902 109 St.)
Your favourite cocktail bar Dolly’s Cocktails is hosting the Black Lagoon Pop-up this week through to Nov. 3. You’re invited to try some ‘haunting cocktails’ (10 drinks to choose from) plus some Halloween-themed menu items! I’m going this week as well. Can’t wait. The decor looks amazing too! Limited reservations are/were available and then it’s all walk ins after that.
Try the Thanksgiving Poutine from La Poutine (8720 109 St.)
On my list for Thanksgiving bites: a Thanksgiving Poutine from La Poutine! It features roasted turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, curds and gravy over hand-cut fries. Only available in-store while supplies last. Need!
And here’s a few food events you may be interested in…
Canada’s Great Kitchen Party is on Oct. 10.
Don’t miss the final few nights for The Common’s Street Car Cask series of summer drink + ride events. Each Thursday until Oct. 10.

The Edmonton Public Library’s Gala: Books + Cooks is Oct. 19.
There’s an Oktoberfest party on Oct. 19 in Sherwood Park.
The next Ernest’s at NAIT Alumni Series dinner is Oct. 25.
Ate something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.

The final Street Car Cask Party is Thursday, Oct. 10 featuring Blindman Brewing and there are a few tickets left. You get beer and some light snacks, learn a bit about the street car, and ride over the High Level Bridge. It’s beautiful views and a fun night out!
