Things to Do This Week
Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day! (various locations)
National Indigenous Peoples Day is June 21! Here are a few ways to mark it:
Canada’s largest outdoor Indigenous Market returns to the River Cree Resort and Casino South Parking Lot June 20-23. This is FREE To attend, with more than 80 authentic vendors, 10+ food trucks and a Kids Zone.
Check out the City of Edmonton’s free National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration at Churchill Square from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, June 21 with musical performances, activities, knowledge sharing and more.
Canadian Native Friendship Centre presents Indigenous Peoples Festival at Borden Park on Friday, June 21 with Indigenous storytelling, live performances, tipi teachings, games, food trucks and more.
Kingsway Mall’s National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration is Friday, June 21 featuring performances from Dancing Cree (who I recently saw in action—they are wonderful!) There will also be an educational exhibit.
There is a free National Indigenous Peoples Day event in Spruce Grove the evening of Friday, June 21 with a free BBQ, Indigenous performances, a vendor market and more.
The TELUS World of Science is hosting a bunch of National Indigenous Peoples Day activities on Friday, June 21 included with Science Centre admission (free for Indigenous Peoples).
From June 21-23, the Royal Alberta Museum is hosting a weekend of special programming centering Indigenous voices and experiences for National Indigenous Peoples Day. Activities are included with general admission and admission is always free for Indigenous Peoples.
Head out to Metis Crossing at Smoky Lake to experience Alberta Metis Fest taking place June 21 & 22. This festival is filled with Metis culture and celebration including music performances, jigging competitions, an artisan market and more. Smoky Lake is about a 1.5 hour-drive away.
Experience the Alberta Circus Arts Festival June 20-23!
Come one, come all, from June 20th – 23rd, 2024 for the Alberta Circus Arts Festival, hosted by Firefly Theatre and Circus. Check out four days of Canadian contemporary circus performances, along with FREE activities for everyone! There’s circus skill workshops for beginners through professionals, panels and discussions on art and life, and a fabulous Friday Circus Happy Hour – 5@Cirque! You will be treated to a world-class Canadian contemporary circus on an intimate scale. It’s like seeing Cirque du Soleil in your living room!
On June 22, attend a Drive In Movie at Marquis West!
Picture this: buttery popcorn, sweet candy and a giant screen flickering to life in the cozy comfort of your car!! Celebrate music and art along 124 Street (various locations)
Two summer activities are happening along 124 Street and Area this Saturday, June 22 including Make Music Edmonton, a FREE family-friendly music festival featuring a variety of musicians performing all over the area. The second annual #Chalk124Street is also back that evening featuring 15+ chalk art pieces / artists popping up all over the street. Both events take place from 4-8 p.m.

Head to Pets in the Park (Buena Vista Park)
The Edmonton Humane Society’s Pets in the Park festival returns this weekend Sunday, June 23 at Buena Vista Park. Come celebrate pets and help the EHS raise funds. There’s a full day of paw-some events programming for people and pets. This event is FREE To attend and most activities are free too.
