Lindork’s Lists #223 – Honestly, so many things to do this weekend!
Newsletter for June 5-11, 2024
Note: this is the public version of my weekly email newsletter that gets sent to subscriber inboxes first each Wednesday. If you’re looking at this public version, there’s a chance you miss out on events earlier in the week! Get the full newsletter first bybecoming a free subscriber.
Summer Festival Season is in full swing and there is seriously sooooo much to do (plus hockey in June?!) A little reminder too that businesses perhaps in walking distance to the arena might be doing great but the playoffs can actually be a pretty bad time for other businesses (and even events)—particularly if there is no TV and it’s a Game Day. Just a suggestion to try and spread your love (and wallets) lol around while also celebrating this historic Oilers run!
Things to Do This Week
Head to Sari Sari Mercardo Filipino Market (9912 72 Ave.)
Sari Sari Mercado outdoor market celebrating Philippine Independence Day and featuring Filipino vendors returns this Saturday June 8 and Sunday June 9 at 9912 72 Ave.—rain or shine! There will be dozens of vendors, food, music and more! FREE to attend.
Attend a “bLoc Party” in Chinatown! (98 Street and 106 Avenue)
Plan to check out the Van bLoc Party on both Saturday and Sunday June 8 and 9. It’s promising to be a weekend of fun in Chinatown with beer gardens, live music, local artists, food, vendors—family-friendly, FREE admission.
See ‘Dragons Everywhere’ for the Dragon Festival (Louise McKinney)
The Dragon Festival in the Park is taking place on Sunday June 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chinese Garden in Louise McKinney Riverfront Park. The family-friendly, FREE to attend event is being described as a time where “dragons take over the land, sky, and water”—a “magical setting where mythical dragons soar through the skies, dance on the waves, creating a fantastical realm for all ages.” I am curious to see what it will be like!
Experience the Fancy Women Bike Ride (Meet at Churchill Square)
Plan to attend the Fancy Women Bike Ride 2024! The 4th annual ride in Edmonton is Sunday, June 9 and starts at Edmonton City Hall for photo ops before you depart. FREE to participate. I recommend renting e-bikes from Pedego Edmonton to make the ride super smooth too.
Get tickets to the inaugural ICE District Carnival (Fan Park – 10104 104 Ave.)
ICE District is hosting its inaugural ICE District Carnival this weekend Thursday June 6 to Sunday June 9. The ICE District Carnival is the largest midway to be hosted in downtown Edmonton with more than 25 popular rides, carnival games, food and more.
Catch home openers for the Edmonton Elks & River Hawks (various locations)
This weekend Friday, June 7 is the home opener for the Edmonton River Hawks (baseball!) along with back-to-back home baseball games.
Saturday, June 8 is the home opener for the Edmonton Elks (football!)
Of course Game 1 of the Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup Finals is also on Saturday, June 8 (but you can do all the sportsin’ as both the Elks and River Hawk games on hockey playoff days will be earlier in the day!)
And here’s a few more ideas…
The City of Edmonton’s Movies on the Square (Churchill Square) is back! Catch upcoming shows June 5, 12 and 19.
The next Edmonton Public Library Books2Buy Sale is this weekend June 7-9! The only one of the summer so should be a good one.
One of my favourite local artists Josh Harnack is doing a “Limbo of Lost Canvases” art show at The Aviary on Wednesday, June 5. He bought a storage locker with 6,000 paintings inside and has been having quite an experience turning them into beautiful recreated artwork.
The FREE to attend Heart of the City Music & Arts Festival is June 8 and 9!
New Music Edmonton presents the Now Hear This Festival of New Music which runs June 6-15!
Save the Dates for these June Events!
On June 22, attend a Drive In Movie at Marquis West!
Picture this: buttery popcorn, sweet candy and a giant screen flickering to life in the cozy comfort of your car!! Whether you’re cuddled up with blankets in the back seat or lounging in camping chairs by the trunk, it’s a cinematic experience unlike any other and you can find it at Marquis West, a new community in Northeast Edmonton.
Before the movie begins on Saturday, June 22, enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities and treats. Indulge in popcorn and candy favourites from yesteryear plus tour exceptional show homes by Morrison, Bedrock, Homes by Avi, Coventry and Jayman.
Your $15 ticket covers one parking spot for a vehicle, free pre-show activities, complimentary food trucks, drinks, popcorn and treats! PLUS ticket holders will receive one complimentary swag item! And proceeds support Edmonton Garrison Military Family Resource Centre.
Thanks to Marquis West for supporting my small business with this sponsored message.

On June 26, Sip on the Sask in support of CASA Mental Health!
The Zin on the River fundraiser presented by Concrete Blonde and JDK Group returns to the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald on Wed, June 26, in support of CASA Mental Health.
CASA’s services fill in the missing middle. These are services for kids whose mental illness is too complex to be cared for in the community and by physicians alone. They should also never have to end up in the hospital.
At Zin on the River, enjoy an evening of live entertainment, fine wine and scotch tastings, plus a sampling of charcuterie and desserts. Proceeds from the event support child, youth and family mental health in Alberta!!
Thanks to CASA Mental Health for supporting my small business with this sponsored message.

Food to Try This Week!
Celebrate Toast Culture’s 5-year anniversary! (11965 Jasper Ave.)
Congratulations to Toast Culture on their 5-year anniversary! They have an awesome Toast Bar (I am partial to the ahi tuna poke toast), offer a great brunch and sling Birch & Bear Pizza out of the space as well. Now would be a great time to visit or revisit to mark their 5-year milestone.
Try Rocky Mountain Icehouse’s smokin’ good platter deal (10516 Jasper Ave.)
The Rocky Mountain Icehouse has launched a weekly Smoke On Smoke Off $12 platter and chef competition taking place every Wednesday during the day. For just $12 you get a platter with 3 smoked items from each competing team (6 delicious dishes). What a deal! You can also vote for your favourites.

Sepp’s Pizza is back for a summer of slices slung out their back window featuring classic NY cheese, Sepp’s Pepp, and a weekly feature slice. Enjoy!
Take part in Taco Week and Margarita Madness! (various locations)
The Taco Week line-up for Edmonton looks pretty good with more than a dozen participating restaurants. Four eateries are also offering signature margaritas as part of ‘Margarita Madness.‘ $1 from each purchase will be donated to Edmonton’s Food Bank and Leftovers Foundation. If you try them you are invited to vote for your favourite taco and margarita!
Try west Edmonton cafe Milk & Honey (6315 199 St.)
Had a super cute visit to Milk & Honey this week—it’s a cafe located inside a west Edmonton church that’s been open just under a year! Try THE GOAT (with hot honey!) or THE MORTY (with mortadella), any cookie (we loved the Mexican Double Chocolate), an Americano and Iced Matcha Latte. Sizeable sandwich portions for $12.50 plus free parking. Let me know what you think!
