Experience Flying Canoe Volant Festival! (Mill Creek Ravine, various locations)
A very magical winter festival Flying Canoe Volant returns this week Jan. 31 to Feb 3 at Mill Creek Ravine, La Cite Francophone and Ecole Rutherford School. This festival celebrates your inner voyageur with light, music, legends and dance—inspired by French Canadian, First Nations and Metis traditions. It’s a really lovely event! Check out the schedule and plan your visit.
And here’s a few more winter activities happening this weekend:
Head to WinterFest at the Castle Downs Park Pavilion on Sun, Feb. 4 from noon to 3 p.m. It’s free to attend and there will be hot chocolate, sleigh rides, skating at the rink and fun in the snow. A cute lil winter community event.
Learn how to make elaborate and colourful snow sculptures including helping to make a snow dragon at Rundle Park IceWay on Saturday, Feb. 3 as part of Winter City Edmonton’s ‘Learn How to Make a Winterscape’ series of events. They also have a second dragon date on Feb. 10.

Plan to celebrate Family Day weekend at the Winspear Centre!
Get tickets to Gershwin’s Magic Key, a theatrical symphony concert for the whole family at the Winspear Centre during Family Day weekend.
On Saturday, Feb. 17, step into the streets of 1920s New York City, where a newspaper boy has a chance encounter with the famous composer, George Gershwin.
Classical Kids Live! presents this theatrical production featuring your Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, with ESO Resident Conductor Cosette Justo Valdés at the podium. Learn about and be entertained by the extraordinary life and musical masterpieces of one of the greatest American composers of all time!
Gershwin’s most enduring pieces of music are magically woven into a dramatic story as two actors share anecdotes and observations based on true stories from the iconic composer. This show is “far and away the best for introducing children to classical music!” 🎶🎵🎶
Thanks to the Winspear Centre for supporting my small business with this sponsored message!

I hosted a downtown food tour / preview of the dining week at Cafe Caribbean, Lloyd’s Patty Distro and Iland Vybes (all excellent!! if I was picking a favourite bite, Cafe Caribbean’s wings are fantastic).

Try some delicious features at Japonais Windermere (6138 Currents Dr.)
Mike and I were invited to try a few feature menu items from Japonais Windermere and everything was so good! If you haven’t yet been to the southside expansion of one of the best Japanese restaurants in the city, make a reso! And get that Japonais Ceviche and Surf & Turf Tartare!! The Pressed Platter is a holdover from the holidays and not on the menu anymore but you can still ask for it (5 types of pressed sushi—it’s a lot lol).
Head to Fu’s Repair Shop’s Swine & Dine (special menu!) (10524 Jasper Ave.)
