Food to Try This Week

Eats this week: Italian(ish) eats at the new Bella, $25 three-course meal at Ernest’s, discounted pressed salmon sushi and more!
  • Welcome back XIX in St. Albert (150 Bellerose Dr.)

  • Grab discounted Pressed Salmon Sushi from Dorinku Tokyo (10205 82 Ave.)

  • Welcome the new Bella Italian eatery in Old Strathcona (8223 104 St.)

    • Bella, the new Italian “ish” restaurant by the creator of Smokey Bear opens this week (Nov. 2) in Old Strathcona, with food inspired by “traditions and culture of Italy cooked with modern techniques and ingredients. Produce chosen and cooked when it is shining brightest. Seasonal vegetables treated simply to showcase quality. Handmade pastas made from Alberta flour. Proteins in large format made for sharing just like at Nona’s table.”

  • Try the $25 three-course lunch special at Ernest’s (10701 118 Ave.)

    • Ernest’s, the student-run restaurant part of NAIT’s School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts, is back with their $25 three-course lunch special and Diane is raving about this semester’s menu. Try the pork croquettes (appetizer), arctic char filet or beef short ribs (entree), and yuzu coconut panna cotta (dessert). From Diane: “It’s very good, portions also massive, so it is amazing value!” Just a reminder they are a little slower here though so you’d need at least 1.5 hours for lunch.

  • Take advantage of Splash Poke’s November rollback pricing (9499 137 Ave.)

  • Here’s a few more food events coming up you may be interested in…

Ate something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.

New on the Blog

I recently worked with Discover Saskatoon to go ‘Saskatooning’ + share a NEW Travel Guide on Where to Eat, Shop and Explore in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

From river valley trails to beautiful public art and a ridiculously great restaurant scene, I love the little city of Saskatoon, located just a five hour drive or one-ish hour flight from Edmonton! In many cases, it’s quicker to drive to Saskatchewan than different areas of Alberta! Road trip, anyone?! And I’m also giving away a $150 gift card to one of the restaurants I enjoyed while in Saskatchewan—enter on the blog!

My baby Benjimin was gifted the children’s lullaby book ‘Alberta Blue’ by Red Barn Books and it’s just a delight. The tribute to big Alberta skies and open landscapes won Children’s Book of the Year at the 2022 Alberta Book Publishing Awards and features fun rhyming verses by Pat Hatherly and beautiful watercolour paintings by Jesse Horne. A perfect gift for any Alberta baby! And there’s a song to go with it!
