Things to Do This Week
We’re still in a pandemic! In general, please stay home if sick, mask up, get boosted, etc.
Unleash your inner ogre at Edmonton’s first Shrek Rave (Union Hall 6240 99 St.)
“It’s dumb, just come have fun!” Haha. Union Hall is the venue for Edmonton’s first Shrek Rave. This is a ticketed, 18+, Shrek-themed dance party. I think it would be a lot of fun lol.
Drink up at Edmonton’s International Beer Fest (Edmonton Convention Centre)
Not to be confused with the craft beer festival that happened earlier in March (lol I guess Edmontonians like beer enough for basically back-to-back, separate beer festivals lol), Edmonton’s International Beer Fest takes place at the Edmonton Convention Centre this weekend March 24-25. This is Western Canada’s biggest beer festival. Get tickets to classes, demos, workshops, live entertainment, and of course, lots of beer!
Shop some weekend markets (various locations)
The Market at Manchester’s Spring event takes place this Sunday March 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This market features over 20+ local vendors and you’ll get free gift bags if you’re one of the first 20 shoppers. Free to attend.
The Cauldron Market returns for its Spring event this weekend March 25-26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Find 25+ “witchy, weird and wonderful” artists, makers, tarot readers, and more. All ages + free to attend.
Get your gardening on (Alberta Avenue Community Hall 9210 118 Ave.)
Edmonton Seedy Sunday takes place this Sunday March 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Alberta Avenue Community Hall, featuring seed vendors, gardening businesses and community organizations, speakers, and a seed swap (bring extra seeds, gardening books and magazines to swap with others).
Start your Spring Break festivities (various locations)
Spring into Science with the TELUS World of Science’s Spring Break programming which starts this weekend March 25 and runs until April 2. They’ve got a lot of special activities, science experiments, plus regular programming and exhibits you can check out.
The Edmonton Public Library is offering a week of Spring Break activities at various branches from March 25 to April 1. There are family-friendly classes, an assortment of guest performances, Spring Break reading picks and more.
Toys ‘R Us is offering different Spring Break events like hair styling for dolls, Easter crafts, author readings and comic book creation (double check specific stores for programming) from March 27-31.
Don’t miss the last few #NEABOnline Festival events!
This March I partnered with Festival Seekers to promote their #NEABOnline Festival, an online Facebook festival featuring makers, entrepreneurs, business owners and tourism operators in the Northeast Alberta communities of Lac La Biche, MD Bonnyville, Vermilion, Metis Crossing, and some in Edmonton too.
Business owners have been doing short Facebook Live videos every Tuesday & Thursday throughout the month to give you a taste of the products + services they offer. This is a great way to learn about and support small Alberta business owners and tourism operators, and plan your own visits to check out the region! And many are doing giveaways for tuning in too! Your chances are pretty good to win lol. :)
You can see some videos shared so far, and the line-up for upcoming videos here!

Food to Try This Week
Eat some nostalgia at the Zellers Pop-up food truck (Kingsway Mall)
Zellers is reopening and to celebrate, they’re bringing back their Zellers Restaurant menu via food truck for a pop-up at Kingsway Mall in Edmonton on Thursday, March 23 from 11:30-5:30 p.m. or sold out! I thought it was really smart of them to hire existing food trucks and just change up the truck decals (locally—Smokehouse BBQ is our “Zellers” food truck!) The pop-up food truck prices are also amazing, ranging from $3-$7 and yes, the Hot Chicken Sandwich and Big Z Burger are back on the menu! I do expect the line-ups will be long for this lol so brace yourself.
Try a Tomato Top 100 Best Things to Eat in Edmonton dish (various locations)
I forgot to shout out to the Tomato’s Top 100 Best Things to Eat in Edmonton List when it came out so here’s my nod to it! Take a Road Trip at RGE RD, try the Hangover Burger from Jack’s Burger Shack, sip a Mezcal Margarita from El Corazon and more!
Celebrate Noodle Feast’s 10-year Anniversary (3440 99 St.)
Edmonton noodle shop Noodle Feast is marking 10 years in business (congrats!) The restaurant specializes in Xi’an Chinese cuisine including hand pulled noodles and house made dumplings, and is also located in the same lot as V5 Nails, where I get my nails done lol (#V5Nails_Partner) if you want to make a nail + noodle date of it.
Catch the last bit of Downtown Dining Week specials (various locations)
Edmonton Downtown Dining Week wraps up on March 26 so if you haven’t yet, browse their list of participating restaurants (60+ of them) offering $20, $35, $50 or $65 multi-course lunch, all day, and dinner specials.
Check out the new St. Louis Bar & Grill (14222 28 Ave.)
St. Louis Bar & Grill has opened a new location in south Edmonton. This is a Canadian-owned bar / restaurant famous for their wings, ribs and garlic dill sauce. They gifted me some hot sauce and the garlic dill sauce to celebrate the launch and it went great with our fish tacos!
And here’s a few upcoming food events you may want to get tickets for:
Woodshed Burgers is teaming up with Asymmetrical Brewing to host a Meat Your Maker dinner on Monday March 27 at their 124 Street location. Tickets are $60 for 3 courses and 3 beers.
Mai Nguyen is doing a Wonton Party and Dumpling Party (classes) this Sunday March 26 at Fleisch (8210 106 Ave.) These are fun and hands-on, includes folding lessons, cooking demo, and samples of the food you make!
Eaten something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.
Small Business Spotlight
Spring is in the air! So I thought this week’s Small Business Spotlight should shout out to a plant shop. Lace and Leaves Studio offers a variety of tropical house plants, sourced from around the world, for plant lovers of all levels, along with pots, and indoor growing supplies for the plant community in Edmonton and across Alberta. “From beginners to advanced plant moms and dads, we offer a little bit of something for everyone. Come see why we are one of Edmonton’s favourite plant shops.”
