  • Get tickets to Disney On Ice (Edmonton EXPO Centre)

    • Disney on Ice returns to Edmonton this week Nov 17-20 at the Edmonton EXPO Centre, with daytime and evening shows (in fact they’ve apparently had to add extra day time shows because there’s been so much Edmonton interest!) Watch favourite Disney stories come to life on the ice, like Moana, Tangled, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast.

  • Shop the Indie Homemade Market (The Enjoy Centre, St. Albert)

    • This week’s holiday market you may want to check out is Indie Homemade Market! This market includes products from artists, makers, and designers from across Canada, and runs Nov 18-20.

Got an Edmonton area event, virtual event, or something coming up you think my readers would be interested in knowing about? Let me know!

Food to Try This Week

Please continue safely supporting local restaurants, in whatever way works for your comfort levels. If not dining in, please do take-out! Mask-up and please stay home if you’re sick.

Eats this week: Tacos, Pretzels, Green Onion Cake and more!
  • Get tickets to the Super Amigos Taco Pop Up (14802 Stony Plain Rd.)

  • Check out the Nosh Food Festival (401 Festival Ln., Sherwood Park)

    • The Nosh Food Festival returns to Sherwood Park this weekend Saturday & Sunday Nov. 19 & 20, featuring more than 80 food and beverage producers from across Alberta selling sweet, salty, savoury, saucy, vegan, gluten free, international cuisine and more. Free to attend (purchase food items).

  • Go for a coffee and cuddle at Cat Cafe on Whyte (10111 82 Ave.)

    • I was reminded that I’m long overdue for a visit to the Cat Cafe on Whyte (Edmonton’s only cat cafe) by Hanna this week (thanks!) Cats at the cafe are adoptable from SAFE Team Rescue! If you’ve never been, highly recommend.

  • Grab a Green Onion Cake and Hot and Sour Soup from Green Onion Cake Man

    • I stopped by Green Onion Cake Man this week for some green onion cakes and hot and sour soup and it was just perfect. I’m featuring them in an upcoming tourism video with Explore Edmonton (Edmonton Tourism)—so stay tuned for that (and go get some green onion cakes!)

    • Green Onion Cake Man is one of my Edmonton Food Faves! Consider eating your way through the #YEGFoodFaves list this holiday!!

  • Grab sweet and savoury pretzels from DasBrezelHaus (12042 107 Ave.)

    • I had two different people rave about the pretzels from DasBrezelHaus this week—one could not get enough of their jalapeño and cheddar pretzel, the other suggested the Apple Crisp pretzel (which was described as “freaking UNREAL delicious.” They only opened last month so I’m glad to see they’re gaining fans. I’ll be going to try this week too!

  • Celebrate The Lingnan’s 75th Anniversary (10582 104 St.)

    • Congratulations to The Lingnan Chinese Restaurant on this huge milestone: 75 years in business! To mark the occasion of one of few multi-generation restaurants left in Edmonton (and Alberta), they’re doing different deals throughout Nov / Dec. Plan a revisit or a first-time visit to celebrate!

Eaten something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.

Got a suggestion for a small business to spotlight? Let me know!

Small Business Spotlight

I got a message suggesting local small dog treat business LaBork Pawtisserie (gotta love the name lol) as a business to spotlight. They specialize in “beautiful, handcrafted aesthetic dog treats” using high quality, fresh ingredients, made as small batches (and they also do dog cakes!) with limited release schedules that require pre-orders. Something to consider trying (and spoiling) your pup!

Around this time in 2019, I was sharing tips for your visit to Alberta’s famous “Bubble Lake” (Abraham Lake, near Nordegg). This is a stunning area, home to a very beautiful phenomenon that creates frozen ice bubbles visible from the lake. It’s a great destination for a day trip (be warned—it’s usually very windy here lol), and bring skates to skate on the lake too! The lake usually gets cold enough for skating from Dec-April, but as with any frozen ice situation, please be safe. I link to tips for determining ice safety on the blog, along with other things to know before you go!
