Things to Do This Week

If attending events, please check their COVID-19 safety requirements. It’s still a good idea to mask-up—especially indoors. We’re still in a pandemic. Please get vaccinated/boosted!

Lindorks Lists 133 - Things to Do Eat Know This Week - Explore Edmonton Food and Events
Things to do this week: Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival, Beaglemania, Strathearn Art Walk, and more!
  • Attend the Edmonton Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival (105-107 Ave. 98 St.)

    • Chinatown’s Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration takes place this Sunday, Sept. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Chinatown 98 Street between 105-107 Avenue. There will be performances, lion and dragon dances, vendors, cultural games, moon cakes, food trucks, and prizes! Free to attend. Please check it out, and plan to do lunch or early dinner in the area too!! Chinatown could absolutely use the support.

      • There are also other Mid-Autumn celebrations happening across the city this weekend but for selfish reasons (I want you to go to Chinatown lol) I’m not sharing that information with you here. lol.

  • Check out the Strathearn Art Walk (Strathearn Drive between 89-91 St.)

    • The annual Strathearn Art Walk returns this weekend Saturday and Sunday Sept. 10 & 11 from Noon to 7 p.m. for its 10th anniversary and it’s free to attend! There will be artists showcasing and selling their work, live musical performances, and outdoor gallery experience, and more family-friendly fun.

  • Shop the Callingwood Pop-up Night Market (6655 178 St.)

    • Callingwood Farmer’s Market is hosting a Pop-up Night Market this Friday, Sept. 9 from 5-10 p.m. It is free to attend and features 70+ vendors, plus inflatables, face painting, balloon animals, roving characters and entertainment for kids, and food trucks!

  • Celebrate all things Beagle at Beaglemania (Queen Mary Park 10844 117 St.)

    • As a proud Beagle mom, I’m happy to tell you about Beaglemania, Edmonton’s biggest beagle party taking place this Sunday, Sept. 11 from 1-4 p.m. It’s free to attend! Even if you don’t have a beagle, come cuddle with all the beagles who come! They’ll be playing beagle games, there’s a silent auction, BBQ, and my favourite, the Sexy Senior Contest, lol.

  • Experience Tropical Night at The Backyard (10004 103A Ave.)

    • Get tickets to Tropical Night, co-presented by my friends at Black Owned Market Edmonton, which runs this Saturday Sept. 10 from 4 p.m. to late—showcasing the vibrant culture of the African, Black and Caribbean community in the city. Vibe to local artists, check out the Paradise Grill Food Truck, BOM YEG Vendors, and The Backyard Bar.

  • See Imagine Monet before it’s gone! (Edmonton EXPO Centre)

    • The immersive Imagine Monet exhibit at the Edmonton EXPO Centre wraps up after Sept. 10 so if you were thinking about checking it out, this is your final week to do it! Monet is considered the father of Impressionism and this style of art exhibit is really cool. I blogged about Imagine Van Gogh last year which will give you a sense of what to expect (though I haven’t had a chance to check this out myself. Summer has been so busy!)

Got an Edmonton area event, virtual event, or something coming up you think my readers would be interested in knowing about? Let me know!

Food to Try This Week

Please continue safely supporting local restaurants, in whatever way works for your comfort levels. If not dining in, please do take-out! Mask-up and please stay home if you’re sick.

Celebrate local food and art at Savour Strathcona this Sunday!

Eats this week: Happy Hour Hot Pot, sandwiches from Pals, Sherwood Park restaurants at Savour Strathcona Festival and more!
  • Grab a pal to visit Pals Sandwiches (10335 83 Ave.)

    • From the owners of Next Act Pub, MEAT, and Pip, come their latest eatery—Pals Sandwiches—which just opened in Old Strathcona! Pals specializes in sandwiches, cocktails and desserts. I love their bright yellow exterior (and from the looks of it, the interior and their sandwiches too). Grab a pal to celebrate Pals’ grand opening!

  • Get some Flirt Cupcakes and wish them a happy birthday (9124 82 Ave.)

    • Flirt Cupcakes is celebrating the one-year birthday of their store (technically last weekend but I missed it, so still counts this weekend lol). This is actually the cupcake company’s 14th year in business but they moved a bit more east of Whyte last year. Great cupcakes!

  • Go for some Happy Hour Hot Pot (various locations)

    • I celebrated my friend Diane’s birthday this week (and the cooler weather) with a Late Night Happy Hour Hot Pot at Chinese Hot Pot Buffet on Calgary Trail (though the late night pricing option is available at other spots in town too). Late Night Hot Pot pricing is cheaper than all you can eat, includes set items (select a few of your favourites), and because it’s NOT all you can eat, you can pack up the soup broth and any ingredients you can’t finish for a delicious Breakfast Hot Pot at home—which I also got to have lol (it’s as delicious as it sounds!)

  • Try vegan bubble tea from Nuttea (8204 Gateway Blvd.)

    • I forgot to mention during my August Fringe adventures that I tried the vegan bubble tea from new-ish bubble tea spot Nuttea! They specialize in ‘mylk tea’ which is “milk” tea (not dairy milk) made from various nuts—which means they’re the only vegan bubble tea offering in Edmonton. Get one with nut cream, which comes with a cute little shovel you can use to scoop up the cream and tea.

Ate something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.

New on the Blog

It’s coming late in the season but I hope you’ll use my NEW Travel Guide to Waterton Lakes National Park to help plan your visit next summer (or perhaps squeeze in a September visit), including ideas for things to do and food to eat in the southern Alberta park! The area is open year-round, just most services, restaurants, etc. shut down after the summer season so it’s not quite the same experience.
