Things to Do This Week

If attending events, please check their COVID-19 safety requirements. It’s still a good idea to mask-up—especially indoors. We’re still in a pandemic. Please get vaccinated/boosted!

Lindorks Lists 124 - Things to Do Eat Know This Week - Explore Edmonton Food Events Restaurants
Things to do this week: Art Walk, Muttstock, Shakespeare in the Park and more!
  • Go on the Whyte Avenue Art Walk (Old Strathcona)

    • The Whyte Avenue Art Walk returns this weekend July 8-10 along the streets of Old Strathcona (Whyte Ave). Find 4 km of ART! It’s free to walk and you’re encouraged to buy art from mover than 500 artists set up selling and creating along the Ave.

  • Laugh at the Grindstone Comedy Festival (various locations)

    • The 3rd Annual Grindstone Comedy Festival runs July 6-10 featuring stand-up comedy, improv and sketch comedy acts from some of Canada’s top comedians, sketch groups and improvisors. Check out the schedule and get tickets to the shows and workshops.

  • Take in a Christmas Carnival (Fort Edmonton Park)

    • The Christmas Bureau is gearing up for the holiday season (eep!) with a Christmas Carnival Fundraiser event at Fort Edmonton Park this Saturday, July 9. Your ticket helps families in need and gives you admission to Fort Edmonton Park (from 2-5 p.m.), and access to family activities (face painting, cosplay photo ops, games), carnival food and drink, music, dancing and more!

  • Catch live music and pups at Muttstock (Elmwood 12505 75 St.)

    • Muttstock Music Festival returns this Saturday, July 9. Music. Memories. Mutts. All proceeds raised from Muttstock go directly to rescues and non-profit organizations that participate in helping organizers create the festival. Free to attend (they also accept donations, and you can shop at different pet-themed vendors).

  • Attend Freewill Shakespeare in the Park (Heritage Amphitheatre)

    • It’s the final weekend of this year’s Freewill Shakespeare in the Park at Hawrelak Park, featuring performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Measure for Measure. There is Saturday evening matinee as well as Pay what you will student Sundays (with ID), or you can book a Date Night (includes admission and picnic basket), and a few other events happening this weekend.

  • Get pre-sale tickets to BaconFest YEG at K-Days

Got an Edmonton area event, virtual event, or something coming up you think my readers would be interested in knowing about? Let me know!

Food to Try This Week

Please continue safely supporting local restaurants, in whatever way works for your comfort levels. If not dining in, please do take-out! Mask-up and please stay home if you’re sick.

Eats this week: hit up the Shojo patio, grab some Arby’s (I’m a new Arby’s Ambassador!), check out Bar Clementine’s new menu and more!
  • Check out the Edmonton Jerk Festival (Queen Mary Park)

    • The Edmonton Jerk Festival runs this Saturday July 9 at Queen Mary Park. Try all sorts of Jamaican cuisine, catch live performances, play games, enter contests and more! It’s free to attend (pay for food of course!), but they are also accepting donations.

  • Try drinks and the new food menu at Bar Clementine (11957 Jasper Ave.)

  • Show some love to Celtic Kitchen (Bountiful, Windermere, Strathcona Markets)

    • The Celtic Kitchen is the latest victim of social media hacking and have relaunched new accounts you’re encouraged to follow. Show these folks some love— you can pick up their traditional Celtic foods (with a twist) at Bountiful, Windermere or Strathcona Markets.

  • Hit up the Shojo Izakaya underground patio (10425 121 St.)

    • Shout out to Shojo Izakaya, who I am thrilled to feature as one of the food stops on my e-bike food tours this summer. I am a huge fan of their underground patio (you must try it if you haven’t yet!) and they have a great Happy Hour (5-6 or 9 – close). Get the duck udon, hand cone and torched salmon sushi!!

  • Try the July feature at your local Arby’s! (various locations)

    • I am so thrilled to announce that I am an official Arby’s Canada Ambassador (eep!) and to celebrate the dream partnership (I love Arby’s!) I’m giving away $25 gift cards in next week’s newsletter but also currently on my social media.

    • You can enter those giveaways on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.

    • And be sure to swing by one of the seven Edmonton area Arby’s locations before July 24! The feature until then is their delicious three cheese and bacon sandwich and/or $1.99 sliders.

Ate something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.

You missed a Newsletter-Only Giveaway!

In this week’s newsletter, my email subscribers got a chance to enter to win one of two $25 gift cards to the NEW Fuwa Fuwa Windermere location—whose grand opening is Saturday, July 16, 2022. Fuwa Fuwa is North America’s fluffiest souffle pancakes and the Windermere location will be the flagship Edmonton store (biggest, widest selection of pastries—and the only location serving up housemade gelato as well as souffle cheesecake in addition to pancakes and other sweet treats!) I regularly run giveaways for subscribers only, so be sure to subscribe!

Watch Episode 40 of Lindork Does Life

In Episode 40 of my weekly YouTube Video blog series Lindork Does Life, I share a few things you can do when you visit the Southern Alberta City of Medicine Hat!!

It’s one of numerous travel guides I have for ‘The Hat’!’

New on the Blog (#ExploreABwithMe!)

EXPLORE ALBERTA WITH ME! I’ve brought back my summer #ExploreABwithMe initiative, encouraging you to embrace and explore your own backyard (Alberta)—for fun (!!!) and for a chance to win prizes!

I’ve always believed being a tourist in your own town (province) is one of the most fun things you can do—and it’s something I highly recommend even if you do have a chance to go outside of province this summer too. Use my blog travel guides (listed in the #ExploreABwithme blog post) to help plan your Alberta Adventure this summer.

Share about your adventures on social media tagging me + #ExploreABWithMe for a chance to win prizes!

My friends at the Italian Centre Shop Ltd. have donated 20 $10 gift cards for me to surprise people who explore + share.

And the Coast Canmore Hotel and Conference Centre have donated the grand prize—one #ExploreABwithMe participant will win a two-night stay at this beautiful hotel in Canmore, Alberta (selected from all participants after Sept. 12, 2022!)

Public posts shared with hashtag by Sept 12, 2022 will qualify for prizes.

Use my Breathe Outdoors promo code!

If you’re headed out on an outdoor adventure this summer and need to stock up on some items at Breathe Outdoors (formerly Camper’s Village), Alberta’s outdoor adventure store—use my code LINDORK to get 10% off in-store or online.

I just went camping over the long weekend and love items we have from Breathe Outdoors—including our BioLite lanterns, Pinnacle Stove, and Kuma Heated Double Camp Chair. Although we mostly cooked our camp food from scratch, we also tried Peak Refuel’s Beef Pasta Marinara dehydrated food bag (just add boiling water + stir!) and it was soooooo good!

Stay tuned for a Camp Cooking event I'm doing with Breathe Outdoors!
