Things to Do This Week
If attending events, please check their COVID-19 safety requirements. It’s still a good idea to mask-up—especially indoors. We’re still in a pandemic. Please get vaccinated/boosted!
Check out the 5th Annual Edmonton Filipino Fiesta (Borden Park)
The Edmonton Filipino Fiesta returns this weekend June 18-19 at Borden Park. Find FREE live entertainment, arts, crafts, and food that all celebrates Filipino culture!
Celebrate summer Up on the Square (Churchill Square)
The Edmonton Arts Council is hosting UP on the Square, a FREE, family-friendly summer celebration featuring live music, performances, demonstrations, food trucks, and activities for all ages.
Head north for Morinville Festival Days (Morinville – north of St. Albert)
I feel like June is unofficial small midway season. If you’ve missed a few around town, there’s another pop-up midway along with other entertainment and activities just north of St. Albert in Morinville for Morinville Festival Days.
Check out a Dog Talent Show (The Backyard – 10004 103A Ave.)
There’s a Dog City’s Got Talent Show and Competition happening this Saturday June 18 from 12-5 p.m. Watch best tricks, best dressed, best dancer, funniest dogs, and more cute categories. This is a ticketed event with some proceeds going to Canadian Mental Health Association – Edmonton and The Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts
If you’re looking for Father’s Day activities, here’s a few…

Save the date for Alberta Circus Arts Festival June 23-26!
I’ve partnered with Firefly Theatre & Circus to promote their upcoming circus arts festival.
The Alberta Circus Arts Festival (ACAF) runs June 23-26, 2022 and for the first time ever will be live in person! Enjoy circus performances with acts from across the country over four days at French Quarter at Campus Saint-Jean in Edmonton.
Dedicated to the creation of a regional voice for contemporary circus, Firefly Theatre & Circus has produced the event that will feature four shows from artists across Canada, professional development initiatives for artists and industry sector support for producers, presenters and instructors.
The Alberta Circus Arts Festival is full of amazing, powerful, athletic and talented circus artists, performing in a small-but-tall intimate theatre. It’s like seeing Cirque du Soleil in your living room!
You Missed a Newsletter Subscriber Giveaway!

Food to Try This Week
Please continue safely supporting local restaurants, in whatever way works for your comfort levels. If not dining in, please do take-out! Mask-up and please stay home if you’re sick.
It’s rainy all week so this week’s theme is Soups in the City!
If you haven’t yet, see my Guide to Some of my Favourite Asian Soups in Edmonton.
Say goodbye to Noodle Bar by Nomiya (11238 104 Ave.)
Noodle Bar by Nomiya is closing! It’s because the owner family’s dad is retiring. The other Nomiya Japanese Eatery locations around Edmonton will still be operating but the near-downtown Noodle Bar location will close after June 26. Plan to have one more meal here! Their kimchi nabe hot stone bowl soup is one of my favourite soups so I hope they bring some of their amazing dishes from this location over to the other spots.
Choose from a bunch of Korean soups at Dookbaeki (two locations)
Dookbaeki is a Korean restaurant in south Edmonton specializing in Korean soups and they recently (??? well during the pandemic) opened a location in West Edmonton Mall (just outside of TNT inside the mall). They have about 20 soups to choose from (plus other Korean dishes!)
Go on a Tortilla Soup Tour (various locations)
I absolutely love the Tortilla Soup from Acajutla (11302 107 Ave.) as well as Calle Mexico (1127 107 Ave. or 7704 104 St.) If you wanted to do a lil Tortilla Soup Tour, you could consider adding El Mariachi (10991A 124 St.) or Huma Mexican (9880 63 Ave.) too! It is on my to-do list to do a Tortilla Soup in Edmonton blog post because, yum lol.
Try some Greek soup (various locations)
I have been craving some Greek lemon chicken soup lately so if you could go satisfy that for me that’d be great! lol. Try the Avgolemono chicken rice soup with lemon from Cosmos Greek Kitchen (10810 124 St.) or the Kotosoupa Avgolemono chicken egg lemon rice soup from Yianni’s Greek Taverna (10444 82 Ave.).
Slurp up my parent’s Vietnamese pho at King Noodle House (10615 97 St.)
Obviously I’m not going to do a soup suggestions round-up without mentioning my parent’s restaurant lol. Head down to Edmonton Chinatown and try some of my parents’ Vietnamese pho beef noodle soup at King Noodle House Pho Hoang! Remember: they are cash only (nearby ATMs) or you can e-transfer pay me lol. Ask me for recommendations if you do plan to go!
And here’s a few Father’s Day food items you can grab for the weekend:
Order an Italian Centre Father’s Day Grill Kit which features a one-time use, eco-friendly Casus Grill, El Mercato tortilla chips, Daniel’s Dill Dip, family-size Massimo’s Orzo salad, 4pk Massimo’s fresh Italian sausages, 4pk Fresh torpedo buns, 4pk Crodo Aranciata sodas and an Italian Centre Shop jute tote bag.
Meuwly’s is hosting a Father’s Day Charcuterie Night pop-up event at Fleisch Delikatessen this Sunday June 19.
Bon Ton Bakery is partnering with Otto Food + Drink and Woodshed Burgers to sell Father’s Day Build Your Own BBQ Kits! Choose from a variety of Otto sausages or Woodshed burgers, plus buns and other treats.
RGE RD is selling Father’s Day Feast and Charcuterie Boxes.
And a bonus recommendation for the week (not soup or Father’s Day):
Celebrate Sugared & Spiced’s 10 year Anniversary! (10334 82 Ave. – Alley)
Congratulations to Amy and Jeff of Sugared & Spiced, the Old Strathcona back-alley bakery that’s celebrating 10-years. Plan to pick up some tasty treats to celebrate the occasion. I am partial to their cheesecakes (still hoping they bring back their hand pies one day lol)
Ate something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.
Small Business Spotlight
I haven’t done a Small Business Spotlight in a few newsletters because there’s been so much other (support local-related) content but I do hope to bring this section back to the newsletter so if there are other small / local businesses you’d like to suggest be featured / get a little extra love in an upcoming newsletter, please let me know!
Watch Episode 38 of Lindork Does Life

apparently that nomiya noodle bar location is going to reopen with a new owner/rebrand. Similar food though. (i don’t know all the details, that’s just what the server told me)
