Things to Do This Week
Check out the opening weekend of Vignettes Brick & Mortar Festival
Vignettes Design Series is back with their new event – Brick & Mortar Festival! Find unique spaces transformed by architects, designers, artists, maker, and builders, shop pop-up stores, find workshops, fashion shows, and other activities running Nov. 13 – Dec. 11 (Brick & Mortar is open to general public Tues-Sat starting Nov. 16). Check out the featured pop-up shops and stay tuned for event announcements.
Check out the Cat Adoption event at Majesty & Friends (10712 120 St.)
One of my favourite local shops Majesty & Friends is hosting a cat adoption event in support of Community Cats YEG this Saturday, Nov. 13 from 12 – 3 p.m. Meet adoptable cats, bring a wet food donation, get sorted into “a cat house”, meet special guest, cat lover MLA Janis Irwin and get a signed Oregano cat photo by donation, enter to win a cat tree and shop Majesty’s awesome cat gifts!
Watch the FIFA 2021 Qualifiers (Commonwealth Stadium)
Watch the world’s best soccer players compete in Edmonton (for some reason lol) at the FIFA 2021 Qualifiers on Saturday Nov. 12 (and again on Saturday Nov. 16) at Commonwealth Stadium. These exhilarating matches determine who will compete at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Getting married? Check out The Wedding Edit: Afternoon Soiree
My friends at The Wedding Edit are putting together a must-attend wedding event at the Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel this Sunday, Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. if you’re newly engaged / planning a wedding! Meet local wedding vendors, enjoy a cocktail reception with a complimentary cocktail and hor d’oeuvres, shop gift and wedding ideas, win prizes, and get inspired to plan your big day.
Mike and I were actually a featured vow renewal couple in the first Wedding Edit just before the pandemic hit—this isn’t quite the same event in the current pandemic landscape but should still be amazing!
If you’d like to attend and get a discount on tickets, they’ve created a LINDAHOANG promo code for 10% off your order.
Shop The Market Off Whyte Indie Arts & Craft Show
The Market Off Whyte Indie Arts & Craft Show returns this Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10-4 p.m. for a Christmas edition featuring over 30 independent artisans, designers, and crafters. Admission is FREE. Find unique gifs ranging from arts to home decor, crafts and clothes, rugs, beadwork and more!
- Check out the 10th Art Society Christmas Market Place (Sherwood Park)
- It’s the 10th anniversary of the “Christmas Market Place”, hosted by the Art Society of Strathcona County. Local artists create unique items for this one of a kind sale, featuring pottery, paintings, wood carvings, creative glass, jewelry, unique decorations, knitting, and some wonderful stocking stuffers. Admission is free but cash donations to the Strathcona Food Bank are appreciated.

Perfect for the family, date night, friend hang, and more. Mark your calendars! (sponsored)
Food to Try This Week
Many restaurants have now implemented Alberta’s Restrictions Exemption Program (show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test in order to dine-in). Please be prepared to show ID / proof of vaccination when dining in (and check which restaurants are in the program or which are just doing take-out before you decide where to go). Please safely support local!
Celebrate XIX Nineteen’s 9th and 6th anniversaries (Terwillegar/St. Albert)
Congratulations to Chef Andrew Fung and Rino Lam and their teams at XIX Nineteen Terwillegar and St. Albert for their 9th and 6th-year anniversaries! What wonderful milestones. Celebrate by supporting this amazing local restaurant. We are big fans of XIX Nineteen, usually celebrating special occasions here, or simply satisfying some specific cravings. Highly recommend the famous tuna twists!
Try the new ‘Gravy’ by the team at The Local Omnivore (10933 120 St.)
The Local Omnivore has been rebranded as ‘Gravy Burgers and Fries’ home of “Edmonton’s finest, fresh ground beef brisket patty.” Celebrate the rebrand with hot all day breakfast, burgers, fries, and fried chicken.
Grab some delicious bites from Meuwly’s and Duchess Bake Shop (124 St.)
Over the weekend I had the pleasure of being hosted at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge for their first-ever “A Weekend With…” event which included delicious charcuterie from Meuwly’s and a decadent brunch presented by Duchess Bake Shop. Was reminded of how lucky we are to have such incredible and delightful dining options in Edmonton—as both Meuwly’s and Duchess’ items can be found along 124 Street.
Consider picking up a DIY charcuterie kit or assortment of meats and cheeses at Meuwly’s and grab some croissants, macarons and other sweet treats from Duchess!
Try Nourishak, a new Korean restaurant in Edmonton (18216 84 Ave.)
Sip some coffee from the best barista in Canada at Rogue Wave Coffee
Congratulations to Ply Pasarj, co-owner of Rogue Wave Coffee, who has been named the best barista in Canada, and fifth best in the world! The business (located at 11322 119 St.) sells coffee, coffee equipment, monthly coffee subscriptions, and more.
Small Business Spotlight
AUM Cafe, is a cafe located in Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre at 8330 82 Ave., that subscriber Aileen said deserves a shout out!
From Aileen: “I got a turkey sandwich today and I don’t know how they made it so amazing?? They have the best chai lattes, and their desserts are so tasty! They have so many vegan and gluten free options as well, and they rent a totally different kitchen to bake those in so there’s no risk of cross contamination. As someone with many vegans in my family, it can be hard to find decent options for everyone, but AUM definitely has them. They also have loyalty cards where you can earn a free drink, sandwich, soup, etc after buying so many.”

New on the Blog
It’s almost advent calendar season, so I put together a blog guide to Edmonton-Made Advent Calendars to help you count down to Christmas! From beer to short stories, olive oils and chocolates, make sure you place your orders ASAP as advents (especially local ones) tend to sell out quickly. Stay tuned as I give away a SOLD OUT Italian Centre Countdown to Christmas Advent Calendar on my Instagram next week.
Mike and I have been driving our Tesla (lovingly referred to as Ysabella) for over a year now, so I blogged 12 Things to Know About Driving a Tesla Model Y in Alberta after 12 Months of Electric Vehicle Ownership. Back in February, a study found that 70% of Canadians are considering an electric vehicle for their next new vehicle purchase. The federal government has also mandated to have 100% zero-emission vehicle sales by 2035. So the shift to electric vehicles is currently happening and if you’re curious whether a Tesla might be for you, I hope my blog post helps!
On Sunday: Q&A with Nahreman Issa
Every other Sunday, I profile a new “interesting person” in a Q&A series just for paid newsletter subscribers. The next person I’ll be profiling on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021 is CTV Edmonton Noon News Anchor & Morning Live Reporter Nahreman Issa.
Here’s an excerpt from our Q&A:
“I think representation is so important in every aspect of life. Especially in the media. Diverse voices are necessary. It changes the way we look at different parts of life. I grew up wanting to be a reporter but back then, I had no one to look up to for inspiration. I didn’t think this was even an option for me. We have a saying in the Arabic culture that basically translates to “This isn’t for us.” I always assumed that was the case when it came to being a TV reporter or anchor. But I grew up watching the news with my parents and decided, I will just pave the way for myself. And now I have other Arabic people telling me how proud they are to see a Lebanese, Muslim woman on TV.” – Nahreman Issa
