Food to Try This Week

Lindorks Lists 90 - Things to Do Eat Know This Week - Explore Edmonton Food - Events 2
Eats to consider this week: a new Korean restaurant in west Edmonton, ahi tuna twists to celebrate XIX’s anniversary, best barista coffee & more!

Many restaurants have now implemented Alberta’s Restrictions Exemption Program (show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test in order to dine-in). Please be prepared to show ID / proof of vaccination when dining in (and check which restaurants are in the program or which are just doing take-out before you decide where to go). Please safely support local!

  • Celebrate XIX Nineteen’s 9th and 6th anniversaries (Terwillegar/St. Albert)

    • Congratulations to Chef Andrew Fung and Rino Lam and their teams at XIX Nineteen Terwillegar and St. Albert for their 9th and 6th-year anniversaries! What wonderful milestones. Celebrate by supporting this amazing local restaurant. We are big fans of XIX Nineteen, usually celebrating special occasions here, or simply satisfying some specific cravings. Highly recommend the famous tuna twists!

  • Try the new ‘Gravy’ by the team at The Local Omnivore (10933 120 St.)

    • The Local Omnivore has been rebranded as ‘Gravy Burgers and Fries’ home of “Edmonton’s finest, fresh ground beef brisket patty.” Celebrate the rebrand with hot all day breakfast, burgers, fries, and fried chicken.

  • Grab some delicious bites from Meuwly’s and Duchess Bake Shop (124 St.)

    • Over the weekend I had the pleasure of being hosted at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge for their first-ever “A Weekend With…” event which included delicious charcuterie from Meuwly’s and a decadent brunch presented by Duchess Bake Shop. Was reminded of how lucky we are to have such incredible and delightful dining options in Edmonton—as both Meuwly’s and Duchess’ items can be found along 124 Street.

    • Consider picking up a DIY charcuterie kit or assortment of meats and cheeses at Meuwly’s and grab some croissants, macarons and other sweet treats from Duchess!

  • Try Nourishak, a new Korean restaurant in Edmonton (18216 84 Ave.)

    • There’s a new Korean restaurant called Nourishak in west Edmonton, that @Thaddeusarcher3 recommended on Twitter: “Check out this new amazing hole in the wall in #Yeg for Korean food, Nourishak’s service & home cooked food are divine!”

  • Sip some coffee from the best barista in Canada at Rogue Wave Coffee

Ate something amazing recently? Want to show some love to a struggling restaurant? Have a take-out suggestion? Let me know to include in this newsletter.

Small Business Spotlight

AUM Cafe, is a cafe located in Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre at 8330 82 Ave., that subscriber Aileen said deserves a shout out!

From Aileen: “I got a turkey sandwich today and I don’t know how they made it so amazing?? They have the best chai lattes, and their desserts are so tasty! They have so many vegan and gluten free options as well, and they rent a totally different kitchen to bake those in so there’s no risk of cross contamination. As someone with many vegans in my family, it can be hard to find decent options for everyone, but AUM definitely has them. They also have loyalty cards where you can earn a free drink, sandwich, soup, etc after buying so many.”

Mike and I have been driving our Tesla (lovingly referred to as Ysabella) for over a year now, so I blogged 12 Things to Know About Driving a Tesla Model Y in Alberta after 12 Months of Electric Vehicle Ownership. Back in February, a study found that 70% of Canadians are considering an electric vehicle for their next new vehicle purchase. The federal government has also mandated to have 100% zero-emission vehicle sales by 2035. So the shift to electric vehicles is currently happening and if you’re curious whether a Tesla might be for you, I hope my blog post helps!

On Sunday: Q&A with Nahreman Issa

Every other Sunday, I profile a new “interesting person” in a Q&A series just for paid newsletter subscribers. The next person I’ll be profiling on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021 is CTV Edmonton Noon News Anchor & Morning Live Reporter Nahreman Issa.

Q&A with Nahreman Issa
My Q&A with Nahreman Issa goes out to paid subscribers on Nov. 14, 2021.

Here’s an excerpt from our Q&A:

“I think representation is so important in every aspect of life. Especially in the media. Diverse voices are necessary. It changes the way we look at different parts of life. I grew up wanting to be a reporter but back then, I had no one to look up to for inspiration. I didn’t think this was even an option for me. We have a saying in the Arabic culture that basically translates to “This isn’t for us.” I always assumed that was the case when it came to being a TV reporter or anchor. But I grew up watching the news with my parents and decided, I will just pave the way for myself. And now I have other Arabic people telling me how proud they are to see a Lebanese, Muslim woman on TV.” – Nahreman Issa
