Keep Edmonton Weird – Instagrammable Wall

I’m always on the search for Instagrammable Walls and thankfully, a lot of people end up sending me reports of walls they spot, which makes my lifelong search a lot easier lol.

Such was the case with this lovely new KEEP EDMONTON WEIRD wall that was created this year (2020) at the new Stadium Yards area of Edmonton located near downtown, right by the Commonwealth Stadium and Stadium LRT Station.

Multiple backdrops in one!

Usually I want my blog posts to have a bit more substance (lol) but in this case I just wanted to share photo inspiration for this stunning, massive mural!!

The Keep Edmonton Weird Instagrammable Wall was designed by the team at Stadium Yards, an Edmonton core community / urban village adjacent to the Stadium LRT station, across the tracks from the Commonwealth Recreation Centre and Commonwealth Stadium. It’s not the most unique concept (there are certainly other cities with this existing keep ‘city’ weird / X slogan that’s been done before, for sure), but I love its colours, how big it is, that it’s accessible and offers multiple photo backdrops in one location.

Why ‘Keep Edmonton Weird?’ I asked Stadium Yards this question and they said it’s about embracing all of the wonderfully weird parts of ourselves and our identities! “We want the Yards to have an identity and a community with lots of vibrant and diverse members! We want people to feel included. And safe,” they told me. But really it can mean “whatever people want it to mean!”

Stadium Yards first alerted me of the wall in this Instagram post back in November 2020 and I was itching to get there shortly after!! I can absolutely see this wall being a popular photo spot and quite the Edmonton landmark (hello Edmonton tourism videos lol).

The Keep Edmonton Weird Instagrammable Wall is located along the side of a building called Westmount Store Fixtures at 8520 106A Avenue.

If driving there, turn in from 82 Street / Jasper Avenue. If taking the LRT, get off at Stadium and walk over!
