Okuda San Migeul’s amazing work! Now imagine this in Edmonton!

Let’s celebrate the beautiful, Instagrammable walls in our city by going on an Old Strathcona Instagrammable Walls Photo Walk supporting the Okuda San Miguel Mural Project.

What is Okuda San Miguel Mural Project?

Art inspires. It widens perspective. It stirs thought. It reminds us that anything is possible and to follow our dreams. The Merchant Hospitality Group and their supporters want to contribute to the artistic development of Edmonton.

The latest initiative is the commissioning of a 6 story mural in Old Strathcona by internationally recognized Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel. His work can been seen in the streets and galleries of some of the most progressive cities in the world, inclluding Paris, Madrid, and Hong Kong – it is amazing that Edmonton is next on his list. This is a project that will rely on the support of the community and from those who are passionate about art and who are committed to having the world see us as a creative centre.

Imagine Okuda Banner Edmonton

Okuda has done amazing murals all around the world. Let’s have his work in Edmonton!

“We imagine an Edmonton that is as vibrant as our dreams are big, and truly represents how creative and thriving our city is. We need the help of the community, through our Go Fund Me page, the public has an opportunity to put their name on a piece of the project by making a donation for a “Paint Swtach”. 100% of the money we raise over for this project will be contributed to public art in Edmonton. It starts with the Okuda mural and will continue with the support of various art projects within our city.”

Edmonton is a large canvas. It’s time to colour it in.

What is an Instagrammable Wall?

An Instagrammable Wall is basically an interesting-looking wall that makes a great backdrop for a photo of yourself or your friends/family. The ‘Instagrammable’ quality, just means that it looks nice and is something you’d want to share on social media.

Instagrammable Walls can be mural walls (and often are—like what Okuda San Miguel will create in Edmonton), they can also just be bold, colourful walls, graffiti walls, interesting textured-walls – you name it. Instagrammable Walls add beauty to a city, and attracts people to a location that might otherwise not be frequented. It can often surprise you! It’s a lot of fun discovering and photographing Instagrammable Walls!

What is a Photo Walk?

A Photo Walk is when a group of people get together and walk around a specific location, finding interesting opportunities and areas for taking pictures.

Bring your cameras/phones, cute outfits, water bottle or snacks, and comfortable walking shoes as we explore the Instagrammable Walls of Old Strathcona—there’s lots of great ones!

Past Photo Walks have been free, and we welcome everyone, but for the purposes of this special fundraiser walk + brunch, we ask that you please book your spot via Eventbrite in advance. You can either select walk + brunch, or just do the walk. 100% of ticket sales will go to support the Imagine Okuda project.

See my Guide to the Instagrammable Walls of Edmonton

The first Instagrammable Walls of Edmonton Photo Walk took place on Saturday, June 3, 2017 as part of Make Something Edmonton’s 100 in 1 Day transform your city event. I’ve hosted several other walks since, and have also created guides to walls in other cities!

There’s been such a great response from Edmontonians who want to discover Instagrammable Walls! The intent is to help Edmontonians find beauty that’s all around this city, encourage people to explore their city, and spur the creation of more Instagrammable Walls!

Join the Instagrammable Walls of Edmonton Facebook Group!

This Facebook Group was created late (oops) but we hope it becomes a hub for Edmontonians interested in finding out where different Instagrammable Walls are, and learning about upcoming walks!

Hope to see you on July 8, 2018!
