Maybe you’ve been to Banff National Park before, but have you ever been to Banff National Park by AIR?!
I got to check off “enter Banff National Park in a helicopter” from my Alberta adventure bucket list this winter, working with Travel Alberta and Chad K Productions on a tourism video showcasing this very special Rockies Heli Canada experience you can do if you’d like to take your Canadian Rockies adventure to NEW HEIGHTS!
Watch the video: Take your Canadian Rockies Adventure to New Heights with a Heli-Snowshoe Tour and Bubble Lake Experience
For this adventure, I got to meet Ralph Sliger, CEO of Rockies Heli Canada, who shared all about his helicopter adventure business, and took me on an incredible helicopter ride and snowshoe experience in David Thompson Country near Nordegg, Alberta.
Rockies Heli Canada has been offering bucket list adventures in the Rocky Mountains since 1999. They offer winter and summer packages that give you views of glaciers, icefields, frozen waterfalls, and just general incredible Rocky Mountain scenery you would not be able to see from the ground. Ralph himself has over 11,000 flying hours since he started flying in 1973.
For this video, we booked the Heli Snowshoe package with Rockies Heli Canada.
This experiences takes you into the air, gives you some amazing views of the Rocky Mountains, and then takes you to a secluded location to enjoy snowshoeing and hot chocolate before you head back to base via helicopter.
Where we landed for snowshoeing—is unaccessible unless you are entering by helicopter OR willing to snowshoe / trek for 18 hours (LOL I’ll take the helicopter ride thank you very much).

As someone who has been fortunate enough to visit Alberta’s Rocky Mountains a number of times, it felt truly special to be able to experience the area by air.
“Coming for a flight with us, we like to describe it as coming and having an outing with a friend. What you are going to see is some of the most of the memorable and unforgettable scenery that is possible anywhere in Canada, some of the most sensational territory anywhere in the world,” Ralph tells me. “What you are going to experience in the air is like nothing you could ever do from the ground.”
Rockies Heli Canada is super conveniently located next to Abraham Lake—also known as Alberta’s famous “Bubble Lake.” I’ve been to the Bubble Lake before—and have shared travel tips for your visit—but was eager for another visit, which we tacked on as part of this tour.
Now the Bubble Lake is definitely something you can experience on your own, but Rockies Heli Canada does also partner with Nordegg Adventures to pair helicopter tours with Bubble Lake experiences if you wanted an entirely guided adventure in the mountains.
Be sure to read my travel guide about the Bubble Lake before you visit to ensure an awesome experience (like for instance—it’s always SUPER windy in this area. Hold on to your hats—and whatever else you don’t want the wind to take because it definitely has taken gloves, earrings, and other items for ill prepared visitors lol.
A helicopter experience works for all ages. Rockies Heli Canada gets a lot of couples. You can even book private tours—and they’ve also done engagement and wedding experiences too. I could see this being a cool adventure for a group of friends—and an unforgettable trip for families too.
I hope this inspires you to consider how yo might take your winter Rocky Mountain adventure to new heights!!
