Social Media Notes
Here’s this week’s round-up of social media (& tech) news. Come by each week for what I hope to be a fun & informative blog post on social stories that caught my eye throughout the week!
- BBC was experimenting with Instagram Video news, Snapchat is exploring news options for its platform and now ABC has launched its 60-second newscast for Facebook.
- Updates to Twitter’s reporting and blocking tools – mostly less steps to report/block and users who are blocked will no longer be able to read tweets form your account (though they could just log out and view it anonymously).
- I am loving Twitter mobile’s new photo filters! Taking the filter game to the next level! lol.
- A very (very) long but fascinating read on one of my favourite things: Smile, you’re speaking Emoji. The rapid evolution of a wordless tongue.
- Introducing Twitter Offers – a new feature which lets you select offcers you see on your timeline and redeem the deals offline for cashback savings. They’re testing with some unnamed brands for the holiday season.
- Facebook’s Slingshot released an update that it hopes brings more people over to the app but I doubt it will. (Snapchat copycat).
- If you still use Google+, you can now pin posts to your profile similar to Twitter’s pinned posts.
- Tumblr is getting all integrate-y. Posts now include ‘buy’ ‘browse’ ‘pledge’ or ‘do someting’ buttons that connect to Etsy, Artsy, Kickstarter and Do Something.
- Maybe these don’t apply to you but Mashable’s list of social media resolutions for 2015 is at least a good starting point to think of ones that may be relevant for you! (For example I don’t Snapchat so snapping less wouldn’t really apply, but I do like the idea of trying a new network and keeping up with more LinkedIn connections!)
- For those who look at web analytics, there’s something called “dark social” traffic, traffic that could not be identified. Turns out it’s mostly from Facebook. Lol. #anticlimactic
- Did you see this week’s Cat Saturday photos?! My favourites are .. pretty much all of them! This is a really good Cat Saturday!!!
