Social Media Notes
Here’s this week’s round-up of social media (& tech) news. Come by each week for what I hope to be a fun & informative blog post on social stories that caught my eye throughout the week!
- This topic is always interesting: How to become Internet famous for $68. Not that I’d like to encourage anyone to do this – it’s just a great read on how easy it is to do. The bit that’s most interesting to me in this article though is how fake followers will still follow legitimate accounts to make their accounts seem less fake, so some people who don’t actually buy their followers may still end up with a huge percentage of fakes without asking for it.
- This isn’t a new video but I just stumbled on it over the weekend and thought it was a really great and easy to digest video explaining how Facebook Ads to get Page Likes can be a total waste and ruin your fan page following.
- Smoother and higher quality GIFs are on its way as Imgur launches Project GIFV, converting GIF files to MP4 video format, but behaving like a GIF (with .gifv extension). It allows you to control it like a video.
- Your photos are never safe. 200,000 Snapchat photos have been leaked online.
- This Forbes article says it’s time to stop thinking of Snapchat as a messaging app. With ads coming soon, Snapchat is quickly becoming YouTube on mobile.
- What a contrast. Rich kids and poor kids of Tehran duke it out on Instagram.
- “People are not hooked on YouTube, Twitter, or Facbeook, but on each other.” Haters always say social media/technology is making humans less social, when in fact we are now more social than ever – we’re just doing it in a different way.
- Interesting – Google is offering some users the option to live video chat with a doctor when they use Google web search to look up symptoms. Who Googles symptoms? (Everyone!)
- Did you see this week’s Cat Saturday photos?! My favourites are 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 12, 16, and 25!!
