Edmonton Fashion Bloggers Wardrobe Sale

When you think of Edmonton, for many, fashion isn’t the first thing that typically comes to mind.

But there is a growing fashion community in our city and with that – a growing number of fashion bloggers.

Marie Zydek (@marielamode) has been a local fashion blogger since 2010. At that time, Zydek says she knew of only two other local fashion blogs.

Now, there are more than 15.

“It is growing,” Zydek says. “Edmonton is getting more fashionable and our designers are doing so well internationally and across Canada. It just keeps growing every year.”

For the first time, Edmontonians will get the opportunity to meet some of the city’s fashion bloggers while buying some of their clothes and accessories.

The Edmonton Fashion Blogger Wardrobe Sale is the first of its kind in our city and takes place this Saturday.

It’s a one-stop shop to meet some of the city’s best-dressed bloggers.

Zydek says the event has been a long-time coming.

“We’ve been trying to put this together for a couple of years but the venue hasn’t always worked out or the timing didn’t work out with all the bloggers and we only had a few bloggers at that time,” Zydek says.

“But now there are a ton of Edmonton fashion bloggers.”

At least 10 of those bloggers including Marie a la Mode, Adventures in Fashion, Ordinary People, and more, are putting their clothes up for sale at cheap, discounted prices.

“There are different types of clothing and lots of unique pieces, something for everyone,” Zydek says.

“We’re not going to be selling really used, worn-out clothing either. We take good care of our clothes. We’re only going to sell the best stuff that we have that maybe we just don’t wear anymore because we’ve moved on. We do have a lot of clothes.”

For 32-year-old Zydek, fashion blogging has opened up opportunities including a part-time styling gig and connections in the local fashion community.

“The blog led me in that direction. I’ve always loved dressing people. I didn’t think I could do as a job but I actually get paid to go shopping with people now,” she says.

“I’ve met a ton of other local bloggers and lots of designers. A lot of us are always at the fashion shows supporting the fashion community and since I started my blog just so many doors have opened up.”

The Edmonton Fashion Blogger Wardrobe Sale takes place at Phabrik art+design 100 Street 80 Avenue this Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

Come out and meet the face behind your favourite fashion blogger or use the event to see just what the community has to offer.

If it’s a hit, Zydek says the group of fashion bloggers hopes to make the sale an annual event.
