Review: New York Bagel

This review is a long time coming as I’ve been a long time goer to New York Bagel – I’ve just never blogged about it! New York Bagel, at 8430 Gateway Blvd., is one of the most wondrous breakfast/brunch places in Edmonton. My brother introduced it to me a couple years ago because it was one of his favourite breakfast/brunch spots. Him and his wife loved the food so much they went weekly – and sometimes more than once!

My last visit to New York Bagel was just about a month ago. We actually ended up being the first customers of the day because we arrived early enough (9:30 a.m.) Normally the place is packed and you’re sure to have to wait in line for a table. (The place did get packed as the morning went on, we were just lucky we got there early to claim a table!) Mike got a House Coffee (actually, two!)

He also got the Bacon and Cheddar Omelette. Looks good great, right?

I got the Joe Benedict (bacon and poached eggs and hollandaise sauce on a cheddar bagel), which is also the same dish I get every time I’m at New York Bagel because it’s great every time I get it! New York Bagel is actually the restaurant where I first started trying poached eggs and fell in l-o-v-e. The fruit tastes great and is cut into cute shapes. The potatoes seem to be infused with some kind of delicious formula because when you bite into it you get this explosion of deliciousness in your mouth (aren’t I articulate? lol).

The food is delicious, you get great portions, and it’s slightly affordable but a little more on the expensive side. I think mine was around $18, Mike’s was around $15. So it’s a little more expensive than say Cora’s, and definitely a jump up from your Dennys or Humpty’s – but again, it’s delicious and an obvious plus – it’s local!

It’s only possible downsize – the wait. It takes awhile to get a seat and it takes awhile to get your food but it’s a definite recommend to all!!

Have you been to New York Bagel? What did you think!

Linda :)
