Recap: XIX Nineteen in St. Albert

One of my absolute favourite restaurants has expanded – opening a second location in St. Albert!

XIX Nineteen has become my go-to spot and first place I recommend to anyone looking for a special night out. Mike and I have always had just the best experiences at XIX. So we were thrilled – so excited to hear that they were doing so well they would be expanding into St. Albert! (Their original location in the southside is at 5940 Mullen Way. The new St. Albert location is at #104 150 Bellerose Drive).

There are restaurants that are good and then there are ones that are so great, that their food causes me to close my eyes and literally exclaim, ‘oh my god. this is so good’ as I take my first (or second, third, eighth, bite) and that’s XIX.

When the food smells so unfreakingbelievable before it even hits your table, there’s all this anticipation and when it does get into your mouth, the dish completely lives up to what you’ve imagined in your head. That’s always my experience at XIX.

Checking out XIX Nineteen’s new St. Albert location (#104 150 Bellerose Drive)!

This week Mike and I were invited (along with a few of our food loving friends) to a preview night at the new XIX St. Albert location. (They just opened last week! Mid-November 2015).

Chef Andrew Fung said off the bat, this night isn’t about blogging or reviews, it’s about friendship. It’s about thanking you for the support you’ve shown to XIX over the last few years.

I rave about XIX to everyone, at all times of the year. I think it’s clear I would recommend you try XIX if you haven’t, and go back soon if you have. During our dinner, I said (one of many times that night) how much I love the food here, and my friend Cindy said “I can tell!” You can really tell when I just light up (and start salivating lol).

So I don’t know how much more I can say to you, to show just how much I love the food & service at this restaurant. So I’ll share some photos from our dinner, and again congratulate the XIX team on opening their new St. Albert location!

Here goes the food porn:

Alberta AAA beef tenderloin with beet risotto, Quebec goat cheese crusted zucchini, baby arugula, and crushed walnuts at XIX Nineteen St. Albert.

Ever have beet risotto? Delicious. Love the colours. The tenderest tenderloin – with Quebec goat cheese crusted zucchini, baby arugula, and crushed walnuts.

Our table got to try a few different desserts – I am not a dessert gal but I will happily eat desserts at XIX. Mike’s (and my) favourite dessert at XIX is the Pizookie (below) a ‘pizza’ cookie, baked in a skillet. Just so damn good you guys (but wait before digging in because it comes out of the oven incredibly hot).

Everything we had was amazing! As per usual.

Leading the kitchen that night was Chef Rino Lam, who is also the Head Chef for the St. Albert location now. (Chef Andrew Fung will stay at the south side location).

XIX Nineteen St. Albert head chef Rino Lam! Round of applause for an amazing meal.

One of our favourite servers Jason is also going to be at the St. Albert location so you’d be lucky to have him! Also the St. Albert location is offering Saturday and Sunday brunch which is currently only available there! (We’ll be back real soon for brunch!!)

Hi St Albert! This Saturday and Sunday 1130am #stalbertxix come check out our #brunchitems #stalbert #yegfood

The room at the St. Albert XIX Nineteen is beautiful, the location is great – the Shops at Boudreau is so lovely (there’s a fireplace and outdoor seating spot!)

And I’m just so excited more people will get the chance to be exposed to this incredible restaurant now that there’s an additional location!

You have a special night coming up? Birthday? Date night? Anniversary? Celebration? Do it at XIX. You will NOT be disappointed! Note that it is a pricier restaurant, which is why I emphasize more that it’s fantastic for special occasions or fancy nights out, but really, if I could go there every week I would. (I hope I haven’t hyped it up too much for you, lol but seriously I love it so much).

Congratulations Andrew, Rino, Nicole, and the entire XIX team! The south side location is still closer for Mike and I so we’ll likely end up back there, but I want to try brunch in St. Albert real soon, and our server Jason has me *almost* convinced to do my annual birthday dinner at XIX, at the St. Albert XIX! (It’s not until July, lol).

Wow. If you can’t go to Momofuku may as well go somewhere that copies their signature dishes. Pork belly buns and prosciutto “hot brown” espresso aioli are classic Chang.
