I recently came to be the owner of this Awesome Groupon that has enabled me to take part in more fitness activities!
Last week I used the first of the 30 classes I received from that Groupon on fitness bootcamps at Fit Body Edmonton.
I went to the Monday session which was focused on cardio and I went to the Wednesday session that focused on upper and lower body.
I wasn’t sure what to expect going into the bootcamp but it’s safe to say now coming out of it that it is brutal, exhausting, sweaty, and… great. It’s a great workout and although my entire body has been sore for the whole week, I have never felt better.
Every day has a different focus. As I said, the Monday I went was focused on cardio and that Wednesday was upper and lower body. I heard that Tuesday they did core workouts and I’m not sure about the other two days but apparently the focus switches around every week so you’re never really sure what you’ll get on whichever day you end up attending. (They do that to keep things interesting and also so that you can’t plan your classes around days with exercises you don’t like! Smart).
It’s a small group of women in the classes. The first class I went to had maybe 10 or so and the second class was just under 10 so it feels really intimate.
Most of the ladies in the classes all appear to be older than me and not even really in that bad of shape. I guess I’m technically not really in bad shape too if you just look at me on the outside but I think we all feel we could be more fit and I don’t know about them but I definitely want a flatter stomach and the removal of my lovehandles, lol.
My instructor is really nice. She’s also tough and she pushes you but she’s fair.
Another observation is that the building the bootcamp takes place in is really shady looking to be honest. The building except for the second floor where the bootcamp is, is entirely dark. I don’t know why and I’m not sure what the rest of the space is used for on a normal day.
Overall I really enjoyed the bootcamp sessions even though on the very first one – by the middle of the class I was thinking how I would never come back because it was so exhaustive.
The classes do seem to go by really quickly though and I definitely get more of an exercise in an hour with a teacher pushing me and telling me what to do than in an hour of me just doing random exercises on my own.
With my Groupon I am allowed eight more classes at that particular boot camp, beyond that I think it would get very costly trying to continue it but we’ll see. I will still have 20 classes to spend at various other fitness spots in town thanks to the Groupon!
I’m looking forward to finishing out the rest of my allotted classes – I plan on doing at least two classes a week for as long as I can. We’ll see how it goes!
Have you ever participated in a fitness bootcamp? Enjoyed it? Hated it? Let me know!
