Recap: Fall Flavours at Good Earth Coffeehouse and Bakery

I’ve never really been the type of person to only eat certain food during certain weather or certain seasons.

I’d crave and eat a steaming hot bowl of pho on the coldest day of the year and the hottest, as an example ;)

But some food does “fit” better in certain seasons so seeing as it’s sweater weather (beautiful autumn!) I thought it was appropriate to warm up with Good Earth Coffeehouse & Bakery‘s fall-inspired new menu items!

Good Earth Coffeehouse & Bakery at 8623 112 Street (Campus Tower).

Good Earth is a Calgary-based coffee house that opened in 1991. Their focus is on exceptional coffee and wholesome food (with a down-to-earth attitude). Since then, more than 40 cafes have opened across western Canada including several here in Edmonton.

Mike and I went to the Campus Tower Good Earth Coffeehouse & Bakery location (8623 112 Street) this week on a fairly chilly evening (making the fall warm up more necessary).

We were invited to try some of their new fall menu items (but left wanting to try all the other ones too!)

Pretty cozy spot at Good Earth Coffee House & Bakery.

When you’re in Good Earth, you definitely feel that wholesome, down-to-earth vibe that the original founders wanted in their coffee shop. It feels pretty hip too – but in a less intimidating way than say entering a packed Remedy Cafe kind of spot. This is much more mellow.

As with any coffee shop, you go up to the front to order. They’ve got a wide range of freshly baked goods, a variety of drinks, and for our purposes, a nice food menu.

Warm and hearty chicken pot pie at Good Earth Coffeehouse & Bakery. (Small: $4.75. Large: $6.75)

For our fall menu tasting, we started off trying their Chicken Pot Pie with Herbed Pastry (small $4.75, large $6.75). This rich, hearty, and classic comfort food dish was just the perfect thing to help warm us up that night. I wrapped my hands around the bowl to soak up even more of the warmth. It was really a lovely dish.

Delicious Kale Pesto and Sicilian Flatbread at Good Earth Coffeehouse. ($5.25 a slice)

Next we tried Good Earth’s new (and delicious) Kale Pesto Flatbread (featuring kale, basil pesto, feta, TONS of asparagus, and tomatoes – $5.25) as well as the Sicilian Flatbread (three types of Italian sausage, jalapeños, roasted red peppers, and olives – $5.25). Both of these were very good. I was surprised at just how much I enjoyed the Kale Pesto – which is their vegetarian flatbread offering.

Normally I don’t select the meatless items when we go out, but I’d pick this up again in a second – it was so good and you get so much value out of it – they really pack a ton of toppings onto that flatbread which I love – I always think one topping pizzas/flatbreads are such a waste (the pizza crust is really just the vehicle for toppings, lol – is my preference). The combination of toppings really worked and I don’t even normally like olives but thought it went so well with the sausage, jalapeños and red peppers.

These flatbreads were paired with Pumpkin Spice Lattes ($4.75 for a medium size), which is pretty much bang on for what you’d expect in a fall-themed drink.

Pumpkin Spice Muffin with Vanilla Rooibos Latte at Good Earth Coffeehouse & Bakery ($2.25 for the muffins, $4.10 for the latte).

And finally for our final ‘course’ we tried their Pumpkin Spice Muffin ($2.25) paired with a Vanilla Rooibos Latte ($4.10 for a medium size). The latte was actually my faovurite drink of the night, because it had the least caffeinated, coffee, kind of flavour and was a bit more on the sweet side.

Warm up at Good Earth Coffeehouse & Bakery!

The food came out super quick and were so tasty. I love how affordable the prices are, and the atmosphere inside Good Earth is wonderful. If I was a student on campus, I’d be here a lot.

Since I’m not, I do plan on going back very soon for more of that damn good flatbread, as well as trying some of their other fall menu items!

The beef stroganoff sounds amazing ($5.50 for a small, $7.75 for a large) and our server told us it comes with potatoes and sour cream.

They also have a series of new and autumn-appropriate soups – including a tomato smoked cheddar ($3.95 for a small, $5.95 for a large) and a chicken noodle split pea.

We had a lovely, casual – but delicious dinner. Our server/the barista was also super helpful and friendly.

I actually rarely go to coffee shops because I’m not a big coffee drinker, but I’m thinking I’m probably missing out on some really good eating options because of this.

We’ll be back to Good Earth soon!
