Charity: Pledge to the Earth!

I had been meaning to post this earlier in the week but things just got so busy I forgot!

My friend is part of the organizing team for a local Earth Hour event that’s taking place this Friday (March 25) and I promised him I would help promote the event! So I am doing what I can with this blog post :)

Here’s an excerpt from the news release:

“Edmonton Post Secondaries Make a Pledge to the Earth”

Edmonton Post-Secondary students will unite at the University of Alberta’s Dinwoodie hall on March 25th at 7 p.m. and celebrate the pledges made for Earth Hour 2011 with live music from local favourites, Audio/Rocketry, The Weekend Kids, and Tatum Williams. Co-hosts of the event, Music Is A Weapon, will join the world wide Earth Hour movement by providing 10 bike generators to power the party.

In a friendly Edmonton competition between the U of A, MacEwan University, NAIT, and Alberta College, students and staff of Edmonton post-secondary look to join the globe in pushing beyond last year’s numbers of 1.3 Billion participants, including 10 million Canadian’s in the WWF’s 2011 Earth Hour.

Edmonton community group Music Is A Weapon adds a bike powered element to the event to spread awareness about energy efficiency and consumption. Music Is A Weapon’s bike powered system (People Powered Parties) will transfers kinetic energy from eager participants to charge the live music and environmental presentations. Ten A-frame generators quickly connect to community bikes and as much as 1.5KW is produced and stored in a liquid gel battery pack which will be used to provide energy for Tatum Williams, The Weekend Kids, and Audio/Rocketry.

Join us at Dinwoodie Lounge on Friday March 25, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. for live Music and Celebration.

Tickets are $5 at the door.

I think this is an absolutely great event leading up to this year’s Earth Hour (which takes place on the 26th @ 8:30 p.m.)

If I didn’t have a friend’s birthday to attend I, too would be attending this event!

But if you have nothing planned yet then I encourage you to go out to this event, listen to some great live music all the while supporting a fantastic cause!

Feel free to pass this along ;)

Linda
