Bid on my terrarium at the 2015 Edmonton Home + Garden Show!

I am not overly crafty. Most of my creativity / work involves a computer / The Internet / a smartphone, etc. But I always love trying more crafty, artsy, hands-on DIY projects (even if it’s few and far between), so I was really excited when the Edmonton Home + Garden Show asked me to create a terrarium that would be auctioned off during the show (March 19-22, 2015) with proceeds going to support the Edmonton Public Library’s Welcome Baby early literacy program!

I was very humbled when I participated in the Home + Garden Show Pallet Challenge two years ago, and the other participants had the most amazing creations – pallet playhouses, wine coolers, coffee tables, and more. I knew this year I wanted to step up my game!

For the terrarium challenge we were asked to bring a few small items that would help make the terrarium “ours.” I decided to team up with Jennifer Izquierdo of Little Day Miniatures food art/jewellery to decorate my terrarium. I went with the food theme because I thought that represented me well, and it went hand-in-hand with the incredible tiny sculptures that Jennifer creates. She happily donated a few pieces so we could a create a whimsical forest-y picnic theme for our terrarium!

Justine made super adorable picnic tables, baskets, tea (with lemon inside – the detail is amazing!), bread, book, little garden gnomes, ladybugs, butterflies.

We were provided with the terrarium case, succulents or tropical plants (I chose succulents – they like being dry and I think are easier to take care of), and other rocks and moss.

P.S. As the event was hosted at the new Little Brick cafe/store in Riverdale – which hasn’t opened to the public yet – our group was lucky enough to get a sneak peek/tour, and it’s a beautiful space in a beautiful neighbourhood that I just know is going to be wildly successful. You can see some of the sneak peek photos of Little Brick here! What a lovely, inspired night!
