Alberta’s rising star
At just the age of 11, small town Alberta singer Hanna Prymych has been working hard to make a name for herself in the music industry.
When she was eight, Hanna took home the top award for singing competition Athabasca Idol.
She’s also won her town’s talent competition three years in a row and says performing for an audience is what she was born to do.
“I just love playing,” she said. “Once I get on stage and look at all the people I just get a rush.”
Hanna lives north of Edmonton on a farm near Thorhild, Alta.
She’s been singing and playing guitar since she was three years old. Her first big performance came in Grade 1, when she sang at a school concert.
After that, Hanna’s mom Sherry says their phone rang off the hook with calls from people requesting for her daughter to sing at local events.
“She’s just always performed it seems. It’s kind of an on-going thing,” Sherry said.
The country rock musician has even posted videos of her singing on YouTube, hoping to amass a following on the popular video sharing website.
But while she’s received plenty of feedback for her singing, Hanna says the feedback isn’t always positive.
“There’s a lot of people who have put me down over the years and told me I couldn’t do it but I think I honestly, I’m saying thank you to them because it’s just made me stronger and I’ve kept going,” Hanna said.
And keep going is what Hanna’s family hopes their rising star continues to do.
“I really believe if you have a dream, go live for it. Do it. You never know. It could happen,” Sherry said.
“No matter how big that dream is you have to put one foot in front of the other and make that dream real, make it come to life.”
For now Hanna says she’ll continue singing and hopes her passion will take her all the way to the big leagues.
“I hope I get big,” she said with a smile. “I hope to move to Nashville someday.”
